Interestingly they did not use the Landrover version of the 2.7TDV6 but the Jaguar twin turbo version - the engine that should have certainly gone into the RRS and maybe the D3.

The Puma is a bit of an orphan in the Landrover range being only in the Defender and logically the 2.7 single turbo would have been better in the Defender with the twin turbo versions in the RRS.

Very nice....pity it wasn't an option....although with a price for the conversion ($48,000) equivalent to the retail price of the original vehicle, probably not one that many people would take up.

It s catch 22 for LR and Defender.

Modernise the Defender with some punch like a D3 or 4 and keep in touch with Jap power. But then it would not be Defender, instead it would go like the clappers.

Can't help wonder what the sales figures would be if LR did drop a 2.7 into a Defender. I'd sign, but not for that conversion price.

As i said in another thread, thats the defender option we should have had 6 months after the disco 3 TDV6 hit the dealers. A tdv6 with auto or manual in a def, with serious off road gear, call it a highlander and market it like a jeep rubicon wrangler.

    Smile Awesome Deefer

The article mentioned that fitting the Jaguar twin turbo V6 vice the LR single turbo was a no brainer as the LR engine was not available to them, whereas the Jag unit is, and the twin turbo was a much simpler fit in to Deefer engine bay. I noticed that there was some ancilliary real estate moved around.

Have contacted JE Engineering to see if they would make up a kit, with possibly the engine and auto sourced in Australia (save on freight for a start)...Jags are flogged here after all.

Hopefully, this may chop the price down a bit.....I have a ageing 130 TD5 that would love to catch up with its Disco3 stablemate.

I guess the plywood interior shot in the article is there to remind us of the Defender's utilitarian heritage.

    How good is that !!!

If that was available in Oz I ‘d sign up in heart beat.

With that engine coupled with gear box and drive line up grade, a puma would be the ultimate.......

I know where to source a fitting kit!
    And custom ECU to suit

    There is a D1 and P38 getting around with a TDV6
