any evaporator will cool.the idea is that the heat is in the roof and the cool air falls onto the passengers.

I fitted a few of these-my boss purchased a unit for $125 each.its a drama covering the ends as in vans they have trims.the switch is on the bottom the mounts are on top and they wont run upside down.

the BTU are rate at 9000 on a good day-so they dont take much from the original system to run.ive fitted the 32000 btu style duoble under dash units in frezer vans using 404 gas and sanden double roof mount condencors.[milk trucks-flower-seafood].

Ive fitted loads of different units to vans.most work real hard as the cab are are hugh for a car a/c 15000 units..most vans need extra condencors to deal with the extra heat load and compressors last a few years.

i once saw universal evap fitted with 12 inch radiator fans to make a square box on the floor.the unit worked good but sprayed water all over the rear body.

Seems like a few different options. What causes the existing aircon on a 110 to be insufficient? Size oif compressor, size of radiator etc?

When I had my aircon gassed the last time, the guys said it all depends on the airflow over the aircon radiator. If I could fit two fans instead of one onto the aircon radiator I would have much colder air, does that seem right?

Where should the air that is being circulated be pulled from, if the intake is under the 110 won't the air that's being sucked in be much hotter due to the heat being reflected off the road?

I find my 110 puches a lot of hot engine air through into the cabin where the gearbox and cubbie is, which would also have an impact on the effectiveness of the aircon.

For a roof mounted unit can the hoses be run such that it can't be seen i.e. behind the pillar posts and under the roof lining?

I have been thru and heat shield most of the underneath , I have the windows tinted ... but it was a rubbish tint and rubbish job so they re-doing.

As for the air cond ... I spoke at length with an auto elec who works on them all the time ... he said " the fan is rubbish ... built for cold climates ... compressor was made by the lowest bidder , and they use rubbish gas "
Went on to say the complete set up is back to front and no effective .
He said he rebuilds them with a new compressor hoses , fan , another type of gas ... and said the results are amazing ... looking around the 800 mark he said .

He is the same guy who did the hoses and hook up on the mates 130.
The mate has gone as so far as to pull his hood lining out , putting heat shield up then refitting his hood lining . His 130 is really cold , even with the air on slow

I had the aircon overhauled and regassed in my 130 about a year ago - no mods, just brining it up to good condition. I'm on a trip through western NSW at the moment. The fan is definitely the issue - the air is cold enough and you can direct it up to your face OK, but when the glass and roof start to heat up the fan is just too weak to really get the air moving (at least that's my theory).

I'm thinking about putting some insulation in the roof to see if that helps. I need to rip out the lining and replace it anyway.

I've been looking for the unit out of a toyota coaster bus, but they are hard to find and usually expensive.

    Cheers,

    Adam

Just to be clear, when you refer to the fan it's the fan that forces the air through the vents and not the fan on the aircon radiator??

So is it a case of bigger is better?? Should one use the biggest compressor and the biggest fan?

What impact does an upgraded compressor have on the Tdi's performance?

What is the heatshield called that you used? I need to redo my roof lining anyway so thinking is it worth while to do heat shield and then do the roof mounted unit and connect it up to a bigger compressor with different gas?

Does the heat shield also reduce noise levels in the cabin?

How do they fit a bigger fan onto the existing radiator seeing as they can't go bigger than the existing mounting holes in the radiator?

Sorry for all the questions but want to get my landy ready for some big trips into the hotter parts of Aus.

Any specs on this??? The original gas would have been R134a, which is the industry standard. Some aftermarket shops use hydrocarbon refrigerants like Hychill - is that what he uses...?

The gas he uses has a wierd name , i will speak to him Wed this week as he has to come back and do some more wrk to the wives car.
He uses a clear oil as well not the normal stuff .. he is not cheap , but his work is first class .. he did my daughters car .. Holden Commodore 2002 v6 and it sits on 14 degs instead of the 17 degs that norm holdens run at.

He strips you old system apart and lays everything out to show you how the compressor breaks down with the R134a in it , amazing black grit that blocks up everything !

The fan that pushes air around your cabin

It is not about the biggest but the best quality

    None

They sell it at Clark Rubber $27 a meter

Does the heat shield also reduce noise levels in the cabin?
    YES

    Hi all

    Definately need to do something

After travelling 5 hrs up to Dargo from Eltham on 35 degree days the Isuzu County heat gain in cab issue seems to be more a case of heat in through the firewall , floor , seat box , handbrake and transer lever. The handbrake and transfer lever are very hot to touch. On the LROCV weekend up at Dargo a fellow Isuzu County owner told he did an infrared thermometer test on his transfer case immediately on pulling up after a trip on a hot day and it was at 90degrees C.

So it would seem that keeping that heat out of the cabin would be paramount before fitting any AC.

Just over Xmas I bought a set of secondhand but working OE gear ( condenser , full fan /coils unit , compressor and condenser fan) but may change that idea now.

Sith at $ 800 that is definately the way I will go .

Is it possible to get the details of the compressor , condenser and evaporator fan please and what gas.

I will see if my guy here can do the same.
