I think you would have a split under the turbo outlet lose, hard to see without taking it off.
Driving the other day, whilst accelerating, I heard a whooshing sound (like you hear little turbo cars and their blow off valves) come from the motor and that was it, no power, high spinning turbo and very little boost.
I stopped and checked the hoses and everything looked fine. Tried to take off again and the turbo would spin (I could hear it - nice and smooth sounding), the EGT would rise dramatically (when normally it would be in the 300deg range it would climb close to 500 very quickly) but there was no power and very little boost (wouldn't go over between 3 and 4).
I made it home ok and the engine sounds no different.
Reading the forums it would seem that perhaps the wastegate actuator is stuck open.
My questions is...what is the position of the lever/ arm at rest for the turbo on a 300tdi?
If someone can tell me I can check that against mine and then decide on a course of action.
Cheers.

yeah maybe..it did not look split from trying to view it from any angle I could see it from. I had toyed with that idea too but i still with to find out where the wastegate should be sitting just in case. Will remove/ replace that hose tomorrow whilst attempting not to lose too much skin....

Turbo hose is easy to get at, no skin loss required. I changed mine at work in the carpark after it split, ordered a replacement from a turbo specialist got it for a fraction of the price that LR wanted. The bloke couriered a silicon spherical wrap one to me at work. Less than 15 min to do the job, just had to trim the elbow arm lenght with a stanley knife.
I blew the small hose from the tee to the actuator last week, did you check that? None of this explains the high EGT though?

Better than it sticking closed. Might have been a leg out of bed if that was the case.
The waste gate on one of Dan Gurney's turbo Offys jammed shut whilst on the engine development dyno at Champion Spark Plug, Long Beach. Showed 1400 hp from 160 cubic inches. They let it run for 10 minutes then shut down before it hand grenaded. I am told by Stewart van Dyne that the sound had to be heard to be believed. Stew reckons you could feel and taste the noise through the double filled block walls of the dyno room.

Problem solved. A quick visit to PCB Landrover this morning had me a look at where the wastegate sits shut - same as mine was.
So I replaced the little hose (which was close to giving way anyway) and re did my boost t piece hoses.
Still had the same problem so I checked the hoses and low and behold I had thrown the bottom one on the intercooler.
It is back on tight and she is back to her old self
