This thread has changed my behavior a little....when I used to ride my bike in Europe I use to wave at all bikes and they waved back. When I came back home I'd wave but nobody waved back so I stopped. When I bought my D2 five years ago I started to wave....but nobody waved back :-( ......so was happy to read about the defender wave :-) This morning i drove past a D1 on northern road and thought I'll wave to see what happens... and he waved back!?...I wonder if he too is getting a defender?

I find the "wave return rate" quite good - I'd say somewhere around 90 - 95%.

In fact, it's basically a pre-requisite for cars I buy; if you see another car of that type/model you wave. Currently the only non-Land Rover is a Smart Roadster (only 400 in Australia so it's an "event" to see another), but previously the likes of MG, Austin-Healey, E30 BMW, Datsun 1600, etc.

Ha I just found this explanation

The LandyCam might be a handy wave research tool.

Nice return wave yesterday , not sure the British Standard LandRover waves apply in Oz as the thumb extension may be a local variation.

    It's a match for me. I'm a regular LR driver under 40.

I passed by two other 130's in Taree today within 5 minutes of each other. One was a little far away so probably didnt see my wave but the other certainly must have seem my wave and no return .

A couple of weeks ago, I had 3 waves from 2 Pumas and a County (?),, all on I think Cantabury Rd,, then another wave from a black Puma later in the day down on the Princes Hwy/Blackburn rd intersection, being driven by a woman too

I must say that todays non-wave overshadowed the wave from a series 3 earlier this morning

    Defender wave

I got a wave today on the way to ledge point (WA), look forward to them and even the wife noticed today. I have a brand new puma 90 and I enjoy the wave tradition.

No, one was a Blue (?) from memory 90, and I'm fairly sure the other was the Dark Grey,, the County was White/Cream in colour.

Leeanne, (SWMBO) was most impressed as all of them were waving as we were.. (I think she was a bit excited at the attention,,)
