The Wind Cheetah rack takes 5 minutes to remove or replace by 2 adults once it's been fitted (2.0m on a 90).

The low profile makes washing the roof a little hard, so I tend to take it off every now and then to give the car a good scrub (red Pilbara dust!) and if I have no trips planned, I'll just leave it off for a week or two.

Putting it back is even easier than taking it of, you just need to take care not to scratch the roof when you slide it back on from the rear (piece of split hose on the front "foot" to slide along the gutter).

I went and had a look at the Wind Cheetah range the other day. Definitely looks the goods, especially with the range of accessory mountings. I agree with the choice of 2m rack for the D90, even though the brochure shows it for D110 only. Have you put a roof tent on yet, Laro? I'd be very, very keen to see that and get an idea of spare space on the rack for gas bottle mounts. I'm keen to keep the gas bottle outside and away from "fiddling reach" (so a little inclined to steer away rom rear mounted gas bottle racks).
There's an ARB roof tent for sale over here in WA, second hand but unused for $1200. Might just have to have a look at that.
I pick up my new D90 on Thursday.

I have never seen a Patriot Rack in the flesh. Plenty of Front Runner Wind Cheetah racks and quite a few Hannibal Racks (IMHO the two best rack makes currently available in Australia). Why are Patriot better than either the Wind Cheetah or Hannibal? What can the Patriots do that the others cannot? And importantly what would be the cost difference (one for you Juddy)?

    Cheers

    PS I currently have a 1.4 m Wind Cheetah on my D90.

I guess while a bunch of questions are being asked of the Patriot racks, who/where are they available from? One big plus in my book for the Wind Cheetah racks is an agent (Opposite Lock) is only a few km away and he stocks a range of the parts and accessories. I haven't managed to see a Patriot rack, so I'm wary of the availability of parts, accessories and future support.
    Cheers

    Hi Karl

Up until 2 weeks ago you would have been 100% correct in thinking Hannibal and Front Runner were the best 2 racks available on the market here in Australia. International Patriot have reputation for making possible the best roof racks on the market, and are synonymous with the Land Rover brand.

I have believed that there was not enough competition at the higher end of the roof rack market, and as such, have secured the distribution rights to the wide range of Patriot roof racks and associated products to be sold via Landybitz Australia.

Why are Patriot racks better than Wind Cheater, the same question should be asked about why are Hannibal better than Wind cheater, well they are.

Both Hannibal and Patriot are evenly priced in the market place, and both have their dedicated followers. Hannibal are better know here in Australia, given they have been around for around 10 years, Patriot on the other hand have never launched in Australia, until now.

Hannibal racks are manufactured in Africa, Patriot are designed, engineered and manufactured in the UK, in this day and age that in its self is unique.

The manufacturing process in the UK, far out weighs the quality from both the African and Asian racks that are available on the market today.

One of the major advantages of the Patriot Racks, are their modular component construction made from aircraft grade aluminium, with unique styling. The modularity affords increased flexibility with designs and the ability to make future modification with ease. Being constructed in this way also allows the rack more rigidity, where as the Hannibal racks are seam welded, and are more prone to flex, which can lead to weld fracturing, this in turn can cause over stressing of the roof gutter line.

Patriot also produce a wider range of quality rack accessories than Hannibal.

Hope that offers a little clarity.

Further information can be obtained directly from landybitz..........

    Hi John

Patriot Products are exclusively available from Landybitz Australia.

Patriot products have only been available commercially here in Australia for the last 2 weeks, therefore, I am in no way surprised you have not seen any yet. Landybitz will be actively promoting the Patriot range of products at trade and industry shows nationally in the near future.

Landybitz are based in Queensland and is able to distribute parts and accessories throughout Australia.

    Regards

    Justin

Hi, on the subject of Patriot Racks I live (for the next month) about 1 mile from where they are manufactured, I went and had a chat with them before deciding and after looking at everything else at the various shows was very impressed. I honestly can't see how a rack could be possibly stronger! They had mine ready before I got there and fitted in 10minutes, I did replace the nuts on the clamps for security ones as some lowlife over here would have lifted it, it is a fair investment but if they are now available in Australia IMHO you can't get better. I will be fitting an awning to mine in the future, just not sure which yet. By the way and not trying to upset anyone they were repairing and modifying a customers Hannabil rack that had fractured it's mounts while I was there (but who knows what he was doing to or with it!)

    Shot at 2012-07-30
Mine came with the upper bar round the front and included where the front sloping bits which I fitted instead.
