The laws would be roughly the same as every other state - a decat pipe would be a defect notice and likely a fine to go with it.

Chances of getting caught - slim to nil....

I thought the fine was also in the range of about $10,000. Replace it with a high performance cat instead if it really annoys you that much?

$10k might be a maximum penalty as set down by the legislation, the penalty notice amount be would be significantly lower, likely a few hundred.

Considering the cost and risk, wouldn't there be a lot of merit in the Alive Tuning "Atric" (or similar!) arrangement that purely programs the cat's valve out of the sequence?

You end up with a new fuel map (able to return to your original with no difficulty for services), the cat is out of the picture as the valve stays shut and the is no way of being caught unless they do roadside gas analysis. Do they do those in Australia?

    Atric

The Atric device give the ability to replace fuel files standard to modified and back, at will. Mod files can give the EGR valve an operating stratagy of zero. This stops the exhaust gases from being fed back in to the engine, however it does not have any effect on the CAT it is still in place.

    Hi, thanks for that.

None of it made any sense, but a few key words and a bit of Googling and found an instruction pdf which puts a whole new light on the subject, and I even found where to find my cat.

    cheers

It's all new stuff to me.

Excuse my ignorance of things mechanical but why would you bother? What is to be gained and what do you lose?

    Cheers

My bad... EGR valve and CAT operation clearly nothing to do with each other...
