    Wading depth?

I know this has been discussed at length before but can anybody tell me exactly why the wading depth for current Defender is 500mm? Is it just because the engine management computer sits so low or are there other reasons?
Was it it the same for the TD5 and TDi models?

It's a conservative figure LR use to cover themselves if someone drowns themselves or their vehicle. I and many others have driven through significantly deeper water...think we went through 1.2m getting to camp in Litchfield NP.

If you have a snorkel, don't simply rely on it - check the air box is really water proof. Use a tarp over the engine bay too, turn off AC, walk the crossing too if at all possible.

But even a stock Defy will drive through water deeper than a half metre any day of the week.

Get yourself an X-Box by Mulgo. It moves the ABS and other electrics from under the drivers seat to under the cubby.

Land Rover use a height that is below the standard air intake.

I use highly scientific methodology. (admittedly, I have a snorkel fitted)

    • If it is above my belly button I don't go in, or
    • If I can't stand up, because of the current, I don't go in.

Thanks for that. I have a Mantec RAI to fit and and the pipe to the air box will be sealed. As for the xbox spoke to Daniel at Wandin the other day he said had to do some work to the Xbox to make work with the new 2.2 fender as there is so much more stuff under the seat now. Why are there so many fuses there!?

PS Sleepy up to my belly button is not very high... I'm a shortarse!

I picked up my 2.2 from Daniel yesterday, and one of the things he was fitting was the Ex-box, and he was using mine as a test bed.
Apparently, moving all of the wires is a piece of pi55, and is easier that a 2.4.

    Looks great.

    Hi Discojools,
As Krispe mentioned, the exbox version for the 2.2 is now available.
