    All the wheel nuts for Landies that had the option of steel wheels have a tapered end, AFAIK the newer cars (D3. D4, RRS, RRV) don't have the taper, but Defenders do. You can run alloy nuts with the steel wheels all the time if you want, no reason not to other than them looking stupid, i would personally put the spare on with 5 alloy nuts so at least you have a spare set of alloy nuts if you need to run an alloy on the trailer for some reason, technicaly you could drag the trailer out of a sticky situation on a flat but the car wouldn't go anywhere with the flat on it.
