I took the hint and replaced mine today, cant tempt fate as mine has also done just on 170,000 klm

what a @&*%$# of a job, Is there a Landrover Part Number for the tool that is required. I had to sacrifice a cranked 14 -17 mm ring and managed to cobble up a tool that worked. Time to make tool 1.5hrs , time to replace hose 20 mins.
    No need to remove alternator.

As it was my original hose was very supple & no crackling when you twist / bend it. Perhaps the Disco engine bay must be a lot hotter than the Defender, anyway glad its done, would hate to have to change on on the side of the road without the tool, would be a bugger to make one without a grinder.
