    Defender sting replacing fuel hose

    Hi Guys,
Got a fuel leek on the way back from Moreton yesterday and had to get towed back by the RACQ.

Got a mobile mechanic around today and its the hose that runs near the injectors about 30 cm long and after he got it out and was taking to get it fixed. i asked roughly how much was it going to cost and was told be up for about $700-800 plus the cost to fix the hose.

Before i mention the company name, that seems like a big rip off, thinking of ringing them before he comes back and asking the question.

    Any ideas guys

    Thanks

More info on what engine would help.

I think from searching your posts you have a Td5?

The hose in question... is it the one that runs down the inside of the inlet manifold from the front of the head to the fuel pressure regulator?

If so the entire regulator with that hose is under $400 for a genuine one.. maybe closer to $300

Bit fiddly to change but not that hard really.

Edited to add... the hose showing in the top of this picture:

we're talking puma here? just had a transit split the high pressure hose to th fuel rail, different shape to the puma one but waaayy cheaper than what he said! iirc it was less tha $100, from ford dealer.
    i'd be asking some questions.
btw, got any pics of the hose?

    Hi Guys,
thanks for the quick response love this site.

Its a 2002 LWB and yes i think it was near the manifold, he said he had to take the alternator off to get part of it off.

looking at the ebay pic he just had the top part of the hose he was taking, when he bent it in front of me you could hear it cracking, so i guess they will all be stuffed

i agree the guys at redcliffe are great after the mrs came back from being out there, i called them to say thanks for a great job, i cant remember the details.

it will be going out there for its next service but it would have been well over a hours tow from us.

    cheers

he needs to be told to go fornicate with a goat. I could supply the parts and charge you at my "I dont like you, you bag landies and have the cheek to turn up in a toyota" rates and still get it in under his labour only price.

Tell you what... I'll take the job on at $800 complete with parts I'll lay on the BBQ while I'm at it.

nahh hang on he said $700-800

$700 if you get it to my place $800 if you want a call out.

just PM me, earliest I can arrange for call out is friday at this stage.

how many klm has your 2002 Td5 done, I recently put a new fuel reg on mine but couldnt be bothered swapping the new hose onto it as the front nut looked bloody hard to get to.

Looks like I've got myself a job for tomorrow !!

sorry to state the obvious but first mistake was ring a mobile mechanic second mistake was to ring a mechanic of any sort
over the years i have taken a couple of my other vehicles to mechanics and been ripped off everytime (I really mean everytime) now i only take when i dont have the equipment to do the job in my shed
Last visit was to get a bearing pressed for a wheel hub carrier on the mrs buzzz box, low and behold he forgot the rear C clip that holds stuff in 6 weeks later wheel bearing fell apart took it back he wouldnt fix it
no use using them they dont do what they sposed to and will put u at risk get it done properly get a guru from aulro to do it for ya
I will also put my hand up and say I will come put it in if u have part ready to go if blk cant
