Thread: Anyone fitted 3" snorkel to passenger side

Southdown 4x4 in the UK is the authority on piped snorkels and the like.

Def 200/300 TDi

Not sure what the plumbing does inside, but it's not like reinventing the wheel and I'm sure these guys will give advice.

200 TDI we always down the passenger side but the biggest problem is the heater box is right in the way.

This my old 90 which was 200tdi and had the snorkel on the passenger side.





I can be done but is really tight and difficult you need to go down the side of the heater, between the heater and wing, then underneath it and back to the engine.

Ideas to finish off snorkel

So I run 80mm Al tube down the DS door pillar, straight through the wingtop (welded to wingtop for security) pipe then straightens as it enters the guard) 90 degree silicone elbow then some massaged 80mm across the steering arm to another silicone 90 into the bottom of the air can.

Only issue on the passenger side is if you have a heaterbox in under the guard - will make routing pipework challenging.

I was thinking of making a flat section of chequer plate with a 3" alloy tube through it and mounting it on the vertical plane/side of the guard similar to where the 200 tdi had a factory hole cut to take an intake. This seems be located so the piping goes under the heater. I could then put a flat 90 degree bend on that going up the A-pillar.

Alternatively I could buy a Southdown flange to mount on the top of the guard as suggested by Lou and get the pipe work made up here.

This is the original from land rover uses the vent on the wing with a thin vent to get around the heater unit.



The other option is a cap that goes over the vent on the wing top and this makes it so you can put a pipe straight down in the vent hole and into the engine bay.
