Hi JC ,It must be frustrating when you've tried all avenues to get what you would have thought basic info. like how different is Transit, to Defender 2.4 . After looking at wikipedia the 2.4 Duratorq engine ! I can't see L/Rover spending to much time or money , other than as we know oil pick up . If you have to take your motor out , It will give you a chance to compare your motor to a Transit motor ...

It is looking more and more like this engine is going to get a rebuild. The exchange short engine was purely a time/ cost scenario, but not getting the answers I need from industry IE reconditioners (NOT even return calls) has led me to advise a strip and rebuild of his own bottom end. At least then I can establish actual cause of failure, Watch this space

We have a Transit parts supplier that we use for work that is very willing to talk. He may know if there is any difference between the two. I don't have his number with me at home but if you like I can pass in on to you in the morning.

Fantastic! At least then I might get some local firsthand info on the subject Thankyou! I have a customer with a transit/ duratorq, this is why I know there are quite a lot of differences with ancilliaries etc etc but it would help to know if that is ALL there is in the different vehicle applications.

Try sending a note to Turner Engineering, they used to do taxi engines and suspect might know as these Transit engines are also used in taxis. Although I did not find a reference to TDCi on their web page.

    Transit vs Land Rover

Hi JC. , ok. so if your going down the rebuild road , there's nothing wrong with that ! As a matter of interest would Ford parts vs L/Rover parts come in at the same prices , worth checking out ...

JC, just curious, what was the initial cause of this motor to fail?
