Thread: viscous fan removal

no its not left hand thread.

undo it the normal way, put your spanner on it and a tap or 2 with a hammer will loosen it.

put a bit of cardboard infront of your fan so radiator dosent get damaged when it falls off.

It took me about 8 hours on my D2 TD5 first time as some IJIT had threadlocked it on, which I assume has happened to you.
I made up a tool from angle to fit 2 of the 3 bolts, jammed it on the guard where the battery usually is in a D2 , then whacked the spanner with a 5lb lump hammer, and it finally gave up. I didn't heat it much as there is a seal right next to the thread,.
I now have the proper Draper 36MM spanner but used a 32MM open end which I ground out to 36MM, which is probably more suited to being whacked as it is more substantial.

Think of it as the motor turns, it would tighten up the bolt if the fan was held.

Has anyone removed a Puma 2.2 fan. Is it right or left thread?

It will be which ever way the motor turns. The fan will self tighten with load and the motor screwing in to it.

It's right hand thread on the Puma as well. I ended up making the tools to remove it, and now it's a dream. I always give the threads a spray of lanotec before I reassemble, as it can lock on pretty hard with time otherwise.

Hopefully the picture will come through. The for the nut is obvious. The other tool locks into 2 of the holes in the pulley wheel.

So you remove it opposite to the motor rotation. ie CCW when looking front to back
Ive just made a pulley holder for a TDV6 and decided to make a universal tool for the puma as well. I will post a drawing with dimensions when I get a few minutes
The TDV6 is left handed thread. I believe TD5 is right handed
