Thread: Question: ARB bar + winch - HD or standard front springs?

I put on an ARB bar, 12000lb winch with 30m of steel cable.

At the time I also fitted a set of 50mm Emu springs.

End result was only 30mm over stock height.

If you going ahead with bar & winch, use Dynema rope instead of cable and save about 10kg's

Winch was about 45kg's bar about 50kg's.

My 130 has HD springs - you don't get a choice with a 130.
It has the new style ARB bar (sits in close and wraps around the sides) and a 12000lb warn with steel cable hanging off it. My front end still sits higher than my old mans 110 - he has same bar but no winch, and no HD springs. His 110 has only travelled 8000 kms more than my 130 - both 2011 pumas.

I haven't noticed any sagging. I run my truck hard and it handles beautifully.

I would fit them - at least in the front. Even the old mans 110 is a bit rough in the rear end when unladen.

Fit the standard 130 front springs in your 110. For the Td5 - and possibly the Puma - they are the recommended HD springs for the 110.

I've used them in both my Tdi and Td5 with standard rear springs and have no complaints with the results.

^ this is our standard all encompassing upgrade. part numbers are NRC9448 AND NRC9449. there is no need to change shocks as puma run very good quality gas from factory.

I am also about to do this using the genuine LR heavy duty 110 (Std 130) springs

On my last 110 Puma I added an ARB bar and a 12,000lb winch with steel rope. In a line up of 110s on a forum trip I found I had the lowest front end of about 10 cars.

I measured the front bump stops and found that the extra weight (> 100Kg) had caused the front to sag below the factory tolerences so I got my dealer to install heavy duty (genuine) springs. This increased the bump stop gap by 45mm. I was very happy with this setup for the front end and the dealer was happy (ie no warranty issues) because the springs were genuine.

On my new 110 I had the same thing done, although this time I also got the HD springs (helper springs) in the back as well. I did this because the back would ride a bit low when fully loaded for touring. However that has resulted in the back end being great for touring but extremely harsh the rest of the time. Either it was a mistake or I need to do more touring... Hmmm...

Is that even a question? Think of it as a motivator - clearly more touring!

My current plan for rear end support (!) if needed is polyairs (or similar), as my work and non-touring play won't see it heavily enough loaded for enough of the time to warrant the harsher ride.
