Hi Rick,

Must be a typo in your query, surely correct spelling is Defendinator!!!

Our 2009 model 110 has no concern with such a leak, at 110,000kms, I do servicing and always replace the o ring and tighten carefully, and do keep an eye on it.

My 2009, had the O-ring fail within the housing, it lost 4l of oil in 10 mins, I would be careful, I had to get mine trucked to the dealer, they charged me over $300 for a a new filter and oil + labour, this was a lot but the engine was sounding rough and I was really worried it would cost a lot more.

I am not sure of the torque settings but I would suggest check that O-ring, it if completely goes it could be trouble.

Be very careful as they get hot and cold quicker than the rest of the engine so with a small leak , cross-thread or gap can quickly come undone and dump all your oil and cook the engine in a very very short space of time.
Different vehicle but we had an old mazda 323 wagon when I was a P-plater . Parents had a reco engine put in after the old one cracked the block up bulli pass and they either cross-threaded the oil filter or bumped it changing the motors over, end result I drove it to waterfall from gong, camped the night. Next day started it to go get some supplies from Heathcote got 1/2 way, oil light came on engine went rough same time then died, I put it in neutral and coasted to first garage in Heathcote, engine was cooked. We got another engine for nix as the mechanic at Heathcote showed us where filter had been cross-threaded.

Mines just started to leak and then throw oil out of the case. Think the plastic cap has cracked somewhere. Never had the courage to take a torque wrench to the cap, it really doesn't look that strong, for about 5 oil changes not I just do I up hand tight and to date never a leak. Any more than hand tight and I find getting the thing off 6 months later can be a bit of a challenge. Anyway, now to find out how much the main stealer wants for a plastic cap....

Resurrecting an old thread.

Lo and behold, my truck has just soiled itself and leaked oil for the first time

It's a 2.4 Tdci and oil is leaking from the oil filter housing as others in this thread have found.

Can anyone help with identifying the part number and where if possible I might be able to pick one up in Melbourne before Monday as I'm about to head off to Sydney.

If you replace the o ring and torque as per LR specs they don't leak,if you tighten them up with a bar and say ''she'll be right'' you'll thread the housing or crack it.This stuff is seriously not rocket science. Pat

As the dealer did the last service, I have no idea if they followed your prescribed method. Since this vehicle is just out of warranty, I plan to change the fluids myself between scheduled services which happens to be right now. My issue is compounded by a few factors. Firstly, I've recently moved to Melbourne and don't know where to source LR parts aside from the dealer, and given its a sunday that proves difficult. Additionally, I've not been successful locating a part number for the oil filter housing in case I find it has been damaged somehow. I have to drive from Melbourne to Brisbane tomorrow and I'd rather have a spare with me if the one I have is faulty.

You should take it to the nearest dealer and get them to fix it,if you had it dealer serviced it is covered by LR warranty regardless where you are.If you touch it you have no come back,you paid for the service,get what you paid for. Pat
