That said they do need a base version, Toyota. Ford. VW etc all do the same so hopefully Land Rover Will.
Actually we don't yet have any comparison. Neither Ford nor VW make a full size heavy duty 4WD. And Toyota are yet to reveal their 75 series replacement. So no one is currently filling this market segment with a new model.

JLR already has the new Ingenium 2.0-2.5 engines and it could drop in the 3.0TDV6. The ZF transmissions are in place. I assume it will get the LR corporate front end. That just leaves decisions about the suspension and styling. How hard can it be?

There's no chance they will beat hilux and there are too many players in that market already (by the way, those all have ladder frame chassis and meet crash regs). ...They should be trying to beat Land Cruiser.

Hey guys and girls so I called my Land Rover dealer I purchased the car through to confirm my car was as I wanted it and the salesman told me the factory was adding options to all of the last vehicles to clear the parts and all of his cars were getting a free sun roof and possibly more which he didn't know what, if any. How cool is that! Not that it makes much difference to mine because I ordered the expedition rack so not sure if it will be able to be opened anyway but I thought to score anything free out of a car maker was a touch lucky!

So much so I went out and bought a lotto ticket to cash in on my new found luck and won a huge amount of stuff all lol! Has anyone else scored anything they didn't order when they received their defender?

I don't think I want a sunroof. I'll take a roof rack or something (that I can remove) but I don't see how Land Rover can go cutting holes in people's roofs without asking them first.

I don't really understand why LR would be under pressure to get rid of parts. They have to keep a stock of spares for the next 15 years anyway.

I did think the same thing Andrew but maybe my lack of objection was good enough answer for him not sure. He did say though it was only for factory fitted options because I said if he wanted to get rid of a bulbar and winch on my vehicle that I would have no objections! I would be not happy if they sent me red leather seats when I ordered partial black though so not too sure how it all works...

I've got a sun roof. I hardly ever open it. It adds to the green house effect in the car, which is OK for three months of the year. On the plus side, its nice to look up through it sometimes.
    Cheers, Billy.
    Keeping it simple is complicated.

If it's a removable extra then it's fine, I wouldn't mind mats or sidesteps, but I would be unimpressed if they 'upgraded' anything without checking with me. Maybe I should ask for a refund on my sunroof if they're throwing them in for free 😉

Sun roofs leak and the dust jams their opening mechanism, as I know from personal experience, so I'd pass on one.

Sun roofs only leak because the draings get blocked - hose them out occasionally and you won't have a problem.

I think the sun roof is classed as an "accessory". I am not sure whether the 15 years spare parts rule includes accessory items as well.
