Thread: Disco 1 rims for Defender Question

D1 wheels give the convenience of tyre shops fitting tubeless tyres without argument.

I can't see that they'd not be rated high enough for any practical use and we have them on 5 vehicles in the family and it is quite a common alternative.

maybe something in these threads for you

Thanks, I just checked these threads and yes these rims are rated 1600kg which is fine.
What I am trying to find is if I put 265s on these rims would there be any contact with chassis or elsewhere.

I may not have fully explained before (post #2 above), but if the stops are set to allow for standard (235/85 16), you may have some contact with the front tyres on the chassis at full lock, if this is a concern it is a simple matter to adjust the stops. Check and adjust after you get the new tyres on (if they're going to rub you'll hear it when moving slowly on full lock).

Great advice thank you. I am still a novice with the landrovers, but thanks to you guys am picking a lot of knowledge.

33mm positive offset wheels will rub on the radius arms and rear spring towers with 265/75/16 muddies.

You might just clear with your 20mm positive offset Sawtooths.

PS I don't think Disco 1 rims are 1600kg load rated?

Sounds like if I go for 265s I will need new rims. If that is the case what rims will be suitable?

Oki, I checked my old standard deefer 110 rims (1996 TDi c/chassis ) and there is no load rating marked on them. The replacement rims I have ( 16x7 sunraysia type by Gecko) are stamped 1250KGs. I still have the original spare tyre from it, ( Michelin 4x4 ) and it is marked -Max load single 2240Lbs Max load dual 1960Lbs @ 65psi .The replacement tyres I have on the 16x7 rims (TerraTrac A/W LT 12ply rating) are marked as Max load single 1380kg @80psi
Given that the originals were 1t rated tyres I think a rim would not have to exceed the tyres to be oki. I suspect a D1 rims would be around the same rating as a defenders given the loading and towing capacity of both are similar. the D1 load is down because the vehicle is heavier to begin with but the towing is the same.

PS should say that of course a 130 will be heavier rated natuarlly. D1 rims or 110 rims are a no no on them . No ifs or buts.

NO OFFSET CHANGE and all with no probs after stops adjusted appropriately

Defender with 235/85 16s




LR 110 (County) with 265/75 16s




LR 110 (Perentie) with 255/85 16s
