Have a full spare day to poke around Birsville, at least im getting it dirty quick
By all means get a Defender. If you get a good one, you'll be happy. If you get a bad one, you'll become a philosopher.

    Hey Longtimer
The dealer I ordered mine from in Melbourne is a large dealer that shifts a few Defenders. They have not taken delivery of any MY15's . They tell me orders for the 90 are very strong with long lead times. The 110 is a little better re lead times but not much. They also confirmed that the only difference between a MY14 and MY 15 was the customisation allowed, which is really only cosmetic.
    Enjoy the beast.
    Cheers

Which Dealer did you do the deal with. We bought ours from ULR, & found them pretty good.

The MY15 introduces ESC (Electronic Stability Control) throughout the range including for the first time ABS on a 130.

This link shows the options available on a MY15 (at least in the UK)

I don't think mine has ESC. Thankfully!!!!!!

    My VIN no is SALLDWBR7EA454321

I have no idea of what numbers go from when to when.
My assumption is that it is actually MY14. Which is fine by me. My poor traction control and ABS were having hissy fits last Saturday as it is (cornering [read drifting] on a flooded corigated ballbearing gravel road at speed). ESC would only make it worse.....

    Cheers,

    Phill.

Just an observation after your comment on FIFO expats, just working out the percentage of 'support the local community' is all

A day is all you will need for Birdsville, if you are doing the simpson, Dalhousie springs is worth a stayover....just be prepared for mozzies
