That's why I got the P38...just felt wrong doing 80km round trips in the Defender and parking it up at the airport for days. The P38 has nearly 200k on it.

I only have the Defender, however I have driven the D4 and was impressed to say the least. However its weight was apparent, but it was a very good drive. I recorded slightly better fuel consumption than the Defender.
I hope that the new Defender is more like the Crossway Ovik then another typical SUV.

The weight is definately apparent in the D4. I was a bit shocked by it tbh but still impressed overall. I'm hopeless at fixing **** anyway so thats probably why a little bit of tech doesn't bother me, I wouldnt be able to fix it regardless.

I don't know how you guys manage to not drive your Defender to keep kilometers low. I get withdrawals after one day not being in it.

I'm pretty certain Pat referred to the guys who are still hoping the new Defender (or whatever it will be called) will have live axles and you will be able to fix it with a pair of pliers and some baling wire... This will obviously not be the case.

I'm purposely keeping the K's on my Tdci Puma as low as possible as I intend to hang on to it forever (whatever that might mean) and I will certainly also be in line to buy a new Defender when they come out.

I agree with Voltron that if the new Defender is in fact a "hardcore" version of the Discovery 4 or possibly even the future Discovery 5 platform it will still be a market leading, all conquering Land Rover.

    Cheers,

    Lou
You explained it better, feel free to do that from now on . Pat

[quote=PAT303;2260094]Whats this forum for mate?,I thought it was for like minded people to get talking about thier vehicles, trouble is this forum seems to be about people who just whinge, how many times have we had defender threads that disolve into complete rubbish because of the p38 diff or can't prime the fuel system etc,I'm a defender fan, always have been and look forward to the next model,if it's anything like the D3-D4,even better the alloy floor pan of the RR it'll rewrite the book. We just collected Emmas 90 yesterday.

We now have a D4 and D90, our son has a D2 (was ours).

We didn't get the D90 for its technology or lack of, it's live axles etc.

We got it (the 90) because we like them, they are capable and it suits us.

So does the D4, which is nicely scratched and dented from real world use.

I think the next generation LR (Defender successor) will be more than up to the task. I look forward to it and the timing to my lease is perfect

    Talking

If I had the coin I'd buy a D4 in a heart beat.
    Love their guts.
I was on a high country trip with LROCV a couple of months ago and that D4 had no issues with anything thrown at it.

I am getting excited about the new Defender as it may well come in an auto.
My other half can have a drive now.

Don't get me wrong, I'd never give up my TD5 110.
    I love its guts more.

    The New Defender

Part way through a 10,00k trip from Rockhampton to Kalgoorlie via the longest shortcut (the great central road) and then to Adelaide and back to Rockhampton in my 130 dual cab Puma Defender with Travelander camper on the back and towing a large trailer packed to the rafters I received a safety recall to have the front axle case replaced. I booked Harry in to Solitaire in Adelaide to have the job done. They gave me a Disco 4 as a courtesy car. Wow! What an experience! I had been criticising Disco drivers because they never wave. I decided that they must be so snug in their rarefied environment that they weren't even aware of the outside world. After driving that courtesy car I am sure that is the case.
If the new Defender can combine the guts and brawn of the traditional Defender with the comfort and ride of the Disco I will be sold.

PS. Solitaire provided me with the best experience I have ever had with a motor car dealer. Their service is superb.
