Driving a Discovery 4 makes me excited for the new Defender.

My 110 is in for warranty work for a week so I have a new Disco 4 to keep me happy. After 2 days driving it I must say it makes me excited for what the new Defender might be. The Disco is an amazing vehicle IMHO and if the new Defender is a shadow of that thing then I can't wait. It possibly could have too much of the wizardry and it could not, it could look like Poo but I really doubt that also. The Disco is definately a great representation of what Landrover have to draw from when desiging the new Defender.

Anyone else had a chance to drive a Disco 4 and get the same impression??

Your in the minority, going by all the crap a hand full of members on here whinge about now with the current defender what do you thinks going to happen when the new one comes out with 18'' tyres, indy suspension etc.Having owned an L322 RR which is kinda similar modern Land Rovers are very good,if the new defender comes with all the tricks the D4 has it will be impressive. Absolutely

Just had 1100km enjoying the D4..
Another 100km in the morning and we will swap into the D90 and drive home 1200km.

My lease ends about the time the replacement Defender is due.. Convenient

we have both in the family but i still love my defender more. the disco is a great car, dont get me wrong though.

what i like about the D4 is the ease of driving and the on road feel, but like most defender owners here just enjoy the mechanical feel, nostalgia and off road performance they offer.

I have never taken the d4 off road though (too precious).......

New Defender will be interesting to see. Could it carve out a unique following like the defenders as we know them? or like the FJ cruisers?............

Don't get me wrong, I still would prefer my Defender. But it is so close to being perfect and the D4 reflects the depth of experience they can draw from to make that happen. I like everyone else hope they keep as much of the Defenders character as possible.

My wife has a D4 - it is the SDV6 version and it goes like a cut cat. My mind boggles at that motor being in a new Defender. I also love my D90 Puma (and P38 and S3) each for different reasons. At the moment I tend to reach for the P38, it is so quiet compared to the Defender. But the Defender is still my favourite, I am just in a phase.

Whats this forum for mate?,I thought it was for like minded people to get talking about thier vehicles, trouble is this forum seems to be about people who just whinge, how many times have we had defender threads that disolve into complete rubbish because of the p38 diff or can't prime the fuel system etc,I'm a defender fan, always have been and look forward to the next model,if it's anything like the D3-D4,even better the alloy floor pan of the RR it'll rewrite the book. Guys,

I think this conversation went off the rails or at least off on a tangent as both Pat and I are avid supporters of the new tech in all Land Rover vehicles and we both drive current Defenders.

I'm pretty certain Pat referred to the guys who are still hoping the new Defender (or whatever it will be called) will have live axles and you will be able to fix it with a pair of pliers and some baling wire... This will obviously not be the case.

I'm purposely keeping the K's on my Tdci Puma as low as possible as I intend to hang on to it forever (whatever that might mean) and I will certainly also be in line to buy a new Defender when they come out.

I agree with Voltron that if the new Defender is in fact a "hardcore" version of the Discovery 4 or possibly even the future Discovery 5 platform it will still be a market leading, all conquering Land Rover.

    Cheers,

    Lou
