We were also lucky enough to be given a D4 (180kw, 600nm) for a few days whilst Gracie was at the Dealer's. A sensational vehicle, everything was so "easy",.....Wifey was mightily impressed.
However, isn't one of the major aspects of a Defender, its "basic" nature.
IMHO, if JLR feel that buyers are looking for too many "refinements", maybe they'd feel that there was no need for a Defender type vehicle at all.
Also, if the "Defender" is upgraded too much, with all mod cons etc, maybe it'd be too "close" to the Discovery & Discovery Sport etc, & buyers may fell, ah well we might as well buy a Disco?

Pickles,
I've still got a few friends working for JLR and while NOBODY knows what the new Defender will look like, the word among employees are that it will be a combined balancing act between the two (Disco and Defender) and we can just hope it works.
They are talking the tech, power and ability of the Disco in a lighter platform with styling and features (inside and out) to allow you to get into it and "operate" it with muddy clothes and work gloves.
I love the Disco 4, but would I slide into the driver's leather seat after a muddy recovery... maybe not. They are also still aiming at the UK's agricultural buying market for the vehicle and they are a very particular lot to please, so I actually have very high hopes.
Cheers,
Lou
