Another point with the ARB bar is we found it interefered with the poly light covers we bought for the headlights. I'm going to have to trim the corner of the covers to make them fit.

Personally Id suggest returning the Poly Covers...

They reduce effective light output ~15% catch dirt and mud behind making that even worse and run the headlights hotter reducing the filament life.

In general - a total pain in the arse!

I bought a second hand ARB commercial bar to go on my puma for about $400, but found out after I had stripped, sandblasted, modified and powder coated it that it was originally for a non aircon Defender. All I had to do was cut about 1" from the bottom of the grille to fit it up. Looks factory, and i still think there is enough clearance around the grill to protect the radiator if I hit anything.

    ARB's my choice

    My choice below.

I'm currently living overseas so got a mate to email a handful of dealers with a request for the vehicle I wanted. 110 station wagon in white or Keswick Green with alloy wheels and dynamic stability control (MY15 only). That's all.

I was very lucky in that a country dealer had one rolling off the truck as the request came in. It was fitted with mud terrain tyres (I think they are the outgoing Goodyear Wrangler MT/R that are being phase out and replaced with the Kevlar MT/R) and mud flaps. They included a set of rubber mats and tow kit with our me asking. I didn't bother shopping around or asking for a discount. I'm happy with that and wanted DSC and there are very few MY15's in country.

I've ordered black Deluxe ARB winch bar (to take my WARN 9.5), Milford cargo barrier, legs from Tradesman to fit my existing Disco4 roof rack and Mantec snorkel (which will be made watertight) from an aftermarket fitter. (It's simple to add your winch later).

The ARB Deluxe is certainly snug, and the winch doesn't seem to protrude as much as some alternatives. But the main thing for me is protection against animal strike. ARB has fared well for me in the past although I've not had major strikes - touch wood. The choice is pretty easy once you have decided what you really need it for.

I'll be towing my Conqueror UEV-490 on another big trip next year. Happy days.

I can give some bar prices from my research if someone can advise if that is within the forum rules?

I went APT bar and steering guard, mainly due to the ARB clearance issues. Good price and made locally in BNE
By all means get a Defender. If you get a good one, you'll be happy. If you get a bad one, you'll become a philosopher.
    apologies to Socrates

    Clancy MY15 110 Defender

Clancy's gone to Queensland Rovering, and we don't know where he are
