From what I have seen you shouldn't have any problems getting parts .
I tend to buy from the UK , if time permits , fairly dear here in the west .
Hi guys,
I'm looking at buying one which needs some work done on it to get it roadworthy etc. Requires some engine parts and an overhaul of the hoses so I just want to make sure I can get them before buying.
I used to have a 90 in the UK, so pretty handy with most aspects of working on a Landy.
I live in Sydney, NSW. Are there any recommended places here for parts etc? Or does it work out better to import from the UK?
Runs a bit smoky but sounds good - used to be run on vege oil so I think there will be gunk in the engine. Is cleaning the piston rings something I could do myself?
How easy is it to find parts for an old 200 TDi Defender 110?
Thanks,
James

Thanks dero. Who do you use in the UK? I used to use Paddocks but I think shipping would be a killer!
I have found Paddocks good , except they are slow to pick & send the order , shipping is ok & works out cheaper than buying local .
LR direct are also good , but you need to know the part no's .
There are also some good sellers on this forum , being in the east you are better off than we are in the west .
I tend to get parts from All Four x 4 in Newcastle, and have also had good service from Land Vehicle Spares in Silverdale. I rarely buy parts from UK, but have got parts from Rimmers.
Anecdotally some 200Tdi parts are getting a bit hard to find. I have never "cleaned" piston rings, and I would think that any time you pull the engine that far apart replacing rings would be a minimum. Depending on the type of smoke (blue is oil, black is fuel, white is steam and reflects head gasket or head), it may reflect the injectors or pump settings, or, perhaps more likely, turbocharger, rather than rings.

Hiya James,
I've used Island 4x4 in the UK and they were good: Island 4x4 - Specialists in Land Rover and Range Rover Parts and accessories for all models. UK and worldwide mail order. - Island 4x4 - Specialists in Land Rover and Range Rover Parts and accessories for all models. UK and worldwide mail order.
Took a couple of emails to sort out how to put in their postage quote to the shopping cart (it was not obvious at all to me!) but got here quickly and prices were good.

G'day James , I suppose It's all about how much they want for It ? You need to know what's wrong with It before you go stripping the motor down , It can end up costing you more than It's worth . Do you know any diesel mechanics that could look at It for you ? My uncle " now retired " was a mecanic with a bus company for 30 plus years . He said that they went through a stage at running recycled chip fat oil in the buses , lots of problems with the filters so they stopped , didn't do It long enough to show any detriment to the engines . You don't say how many Ks It's done ? If It were me I'd be getting It checked out by someone with a bit of diesel knowledge . good luck Jim![]()
Karcraft for parts in NSW.
You mentioned cleaning rings? You generally wouldn't be doing that, if they need cleaning they need replacing and would be because one has broken or is out of spec and worn. Reasonably big job. As said I would be looking at injectors first. I think you may be able to get the 200tdi injectors ultrasonically cleaned but not 100% sure.

Bought in Sydney? From a young bloke named Alex? He was on here for a while until a group buy of LED lights went sour. Username AlexTurner by memory. A search might come up with his vege oil system, at least in its early stages. He had gearbox trouble too, which by memory was replaced, hope there's receipts to that effect...
