Can't help with any of your questions Muppet, since my Disco is a 300Tdi and my Def is a Puma. But I will say....
Welcome to the hairy side....!
Hello there you bunch of bearded ruffians
Have decided that one Land Rover is not enough, A perentie won't suit my needs, and that having two Td5s is a sound decision....
As such, I'm aiming to buy an Xtreme sometime within the next 18 months.
I'm not looking for a top dollar one, because I have no intention of spending $30k. I'll probably take a gamble and grab a cheaper one, somewhere around the $17k mark.
Am more than familiar with the normal Td5 foibles but can you experienced folk give me some pointers about things to look for specifically on the Xtreme?
Do they get the same Amigoes that the Disco 2 gets?
And before you say it, yes I have been in a Defender before, yes I have driven one before, and yes I will be taking several on test drives of varying length, and yes I will take SWMBO
Cheers

G'day Muppet , I've got a 110 Extreme , had It for a few years now , What can I say about It . Well mine has been a good truck , I have had a few issues , but none have been serious , and none have cost me much money . The ones I can think of are , pipe from radiator to exp. tank went brittle and snapped . Replaced with copper ,, replaced heater core , rear ball joint , and a few other things , but all in all no major problems , It has now covered 270,000 ks , starts on the key , will sit on 100ks all day plus It has more to overtake . I had a disco two td5 , and a 110 v8 , I find the extreme a mix and match of them both . If you can get a good one , I think you will be very happy . My only criticism would be there a bit noisy , but then I'm a bit deaf . Good luck ..Jim
I have an extreme. It will depend on what year you are looking at to what the differences over a standard 110 are.
Mine is 2000 so can only really speak for that. extras from new. ABS/Traction Control. Air Con, Alloy Wheels, Bull bar, Tow bar and decals standard I think were it. Later models got front electric windows, central locking and a different centre dash pod, different alloys.
Yes these have problems with the amigos, but on these it is the 2 amigos not three, usually caused by the shuttle switch when it becomes regular. Have to do mine.
Things to watch out for, water behind windscreen and into footwell. Cracks around roof, can also let water in. Twisted or bent radius arms. Fuel pump. Head dowels done. Oil pump bolt checked. Warped exhaust manifold. Corrosion under doors, under fuel filler, around rear door handle, in rear cross member, Headlights have a relay fitted or better a traxide upgrade, Ball Joint. The rest of the stuff is just as any other car.

Subscriber;-) They can cost a bit once they get old if you are unlucky.
In the last 50,000k's mine has had.
New Clutch
New Flywheel
New clutch hydraulics
New Harmonic balancer
Power steering pump
drag link
Complete rear diff including brakes and diff
Wiring looms
a Whole heap of other stuff that I can't remember now.
there was not much change from $15,000 in all of that... If you can do the work yourself - then it would have been about half of that in parts.
Mine has about 260,000k's on it, and I am bit over zealous with maintenance - preferring to fix before things break. (The original clutch could have been kept, but the flywheel was well knackered). I suppose I could have used cheap aftermarket parts - but I always went for the genuine parts, as the labour charges were nearly the cost of the parts. So if you are the type who like your defender mechanically good, then they can be damned expensive when they get to a certain point in their life.
I've still got the original head in mine - but I expect one day that will crap itself. I just hope it craps itself at the same time as the gearbox reaches it's end of life. The very next day it will get a LS3 transplant with an auto box...
