Thread: Where have you fitted your additional power sockets?

Does the panel above the speaker panel come off easy, or does the side window one have to come off first?

The panel above the speaker panel does come off. The two little round studs you see on the photo has a clip on the inside which clips the plastic panel to the main body. There is also one up higher above that you can not see in the photo.
You don't need to remove the side window panel. I found the clips didn't hold once removed and ended up buying new ones.

Isn't it always a case that the panel you want to take off first is the last that can come off??

As per Aguy's post, that panel does come off and it comes off without removing any other panel first. The part number for the clip is BTR6682 and it is always handy to have them on hand as they often break when the panel is removed and as Aguy noted, even if you do get them off unharmed they will probably break next time.



To remove the panel, pull the door edge of the panel towards the front of the vehicle, focusing effort on the locations of the two clips. giving the clip location a thump towards the side of the car with the heel of your hand can sometimes help the clip release. Once the clips have released (or broken) the panel will then slide out towards the door.

Personally though, I would put the sockets along the top of the speaker panel instead. The trim fasteners for that panel are part number EYQ100130 as they often do not survive the centre being unscrewed more than once or twice, especially the one on the door edge.

I stripped a few threads so I use the trim panel remover tools to pop them off.

Thanks to this thread (and others) I have fitted my aux outlets in the panel above the speakers (1 x twin usb, 1 x Engel plug, 1 x 12v and 1 x meter). I have got the replacement clips (BTR6682) but am struggling to fit them to the panel. Is there a trick or is brute force required?

This is what I came up with. It has:

- 30amp auto resetting circuit breaker
- 2 x Hella sockets (individually switched)
- 1 x Engel screw in socket for fridge
- digital meter (amps left in battery, amps current draw, voltage, etc)

Plus you can turn the digital display on or off as you please.
