Well, I am in the same boat, soon my warranty will expire and will be looking for a decent mechanic in my area. The LR dealers are charging in excess of $150 per hour and often are the young apprentices that do the work.

I live in pascoe vale south (Melbourne) and looking for someone I can use. I used Ritters to do some accessory work like winch and a couple of other things and found them really good and know their land rovers. I did get a quote and renegotiated price and satisfied with outcome. Only issue they are too far from me.

I also enquires with Les Richmond in Thomastown closer to me but again they seem to charge around $130-$140 per hour similar to the dealers.

I have local mechanic who is a friend and he told me he has no issue doing work on defender, so I may give it a go and see how it works.
