The blokes not a weirdo if he's only had his brand new Defender a very short time and he wants to keep the shine on it. Fair go. Don't forget that there are substances in the grime which will eat into your vehicle. Caked on mud will hold moisture which will aid electrolysis if the potential is there or the mud contains salts or acids.
Mine's out the front covered in mud and as soon as I can I'm washing it.

Keeping it simple is complicated.
Yeah oki, if I lived near salt I would hose it down more often. Mine is a workhorse so unless the tyres wont turn because the guards are chokkas with mud she has to suffer the once a year go over. I admit the inside tends to get a fortnightly clean though

Mine gets a thorough wash after every holiday or if its exposed to salt or anything that might corrode it but there's not point being obsessive its only going to get dirty again.
I have a karcher with the brush attachment - I'm yet to find any other way that is as efficient at cleaning it as that.

SubscriberMine regularly gets filthy dirty and then it gets a good clean. I actually quite enjoy doing it. But then I also enjoy painting houses so maybe there is something wrong with me!

One reason I have tried to keep it a bit clean with these road works is you should see my other carWhen I cleaned the Defender it took about an hour, maybe an hour and a half for a quick clean and hose underneath as I did it as soon as it got a coating. My other car is going to takes me hours and hours, there is more muddy road base on the car than on the darn road!!
Also what they are doing right now is laying the road base and then laying a layer of cement and a grader is passing over and mixing the two, then we get to drive on it and have the fun of coating unset cement slurry all over our cars
I hope there is no damage to my other cars, but whatever that cement loaded mud it going to take some getting off.

One idea is to spray the underneath of your car with diesel or thin oil, not the exhaust, as it will help for a while to stop the slop sticking. It will also make it easier to clean after.
