    Td5 fire truck help...

    HI Everyone,
I am the first officer of our local rural fire brigade and we had the possibility to get another unit if we paid for it with our own money.. ITS A DEFENDER
We got it from Western Aus and it fits our needs perfectly for a light attack very low km truck (46,000 only!!!!!)
It arrived the other day and I checked it out today , but a few things are confusing, is anyone here a member of the Rural's over in Western Aus?
If so can you help us with what everything does?
    Here are the pics....

Send a PM to Graz.Graham has had them in his Bushfire brigade.Beware the low kms,the engine hours are high, they can run for days at a fire without moving very far.

    Thanks I will.
Yes I know our other truck has low km's too but has done a lot of work (fire fighting you cant turn the engine off even when not moving), but this truck has only 60 hours on the pumps so it does not seem to have done much work at all. Underneath it is mint and the engine is super super tight. No oil leaks little damage and even the seats are almost mint.
    Thanks again

If it's anything like NSW appliances, I would assume it is for a charge plug to keep the battery charged when the vehicle is at station not in use.

    Username is Graz.
Will PM you with his phone number,he isnt on all the time.
He is involved with the Kalamunda Bushfire Brigade, and is pretty well up the management ladder there.
You should find him quite helpfull.

I never thought of that. I put a meter across the pins though and got nothing. I will give Graz a ring later before I plug anything into it though.
All in all though I am quite pleased with it the engine is very tight, the gears are smooth, no oil leaks either. The chassis is undamaged and it still has a as new paint job underneath so the truck really has not done much work. We still have the original plate so maybe Graz knows where it comes from..

    Ex WA appliance

    Hi Chris

I think Larry is on the money, probably an at station battery charging plug. Chase the wiring from it to see where they go.
The 130 is an ex FRS (Fire and Rescue Service) appliance. I'm with the BFS (Bush Fire Service) and all our appliances are white and all 4x4.
Both the FRS and BFS often work together, particularly larger incidences though we normally are separate which is why I don't recollect the 130 you are looking at.
We did have three Defenders but these have been replaced with toyotas.
One thing is obvious, the tojos struggle with the terrain where the Defenders traversed with ease.

You checked across the points but was it isolated at that time?

We have an isolation switch on our appliances that needs to be switched before the charge plugs can be used... maybe that will make a difference?

(remembering I am in SA and we have completely different stuff!)
