Dust around that wing nut is normal since that is on the outside of the filter.

Is there any dust downstream from the filter?

    Maybe no dust got past.

How loose was it? Since it seals against a rubber seal at the back of the filter, it need not feel rock solid for the seal to do its job. The rubber allows a tiny bit of movement.

    lose air cleaner element

hi all posted this on tech chatter, thought I would ask here as well, did a 10,000k service on my 300tdi defender 360.000ks on the clock.
after changing the oil went to change the air filter element to find a fair amount of dust around the wing nut checked the fitment, the filter seemed lose slight clunk when I moved it took two to three turns of the wing nut to get it firm should I be worried about ingress of dust and how can I check cheers all
