spare parts for Simpson trip and then the Cape

    Hi Guys

I am going on a tag along trip next year to the Simpson and these are some parts that are optional, to take

How much are these parts going to cost and size.

spare universal joint for front prop shaft and one for the rear

if your vehicle has IFS and CV joints in the front you won't require universals for the front. (What does a defender have)

Replacing the above parts in some vehicles requires heavy duty workshop equipment so it can't be done on the side of the track but the spares may be able to be fitted by a workshop in the bush.

i know in some people opinions its over the top, thats fine, we are going to be doing a lot of touring coming up.

    cheers

If you are in Brisbane, MR used to do a kit up, pay for what you use when you get back.

They did one for me fort Simpson trip....all I used was a clutch master kit.

I don't understand the language you are using, are you doing some sort of cut and paste exercise but not making clear what are your words and what are copied?

A defender has a solid front axle (not IFS) with CVs - unis are around $100 each, they most certainly can be changed by the side of the road with basic hand tools if necessary, but a better approach is preventative maintenance...

IMO, rather than relying on some touring mob's generic spares list, you'd be better off researching the common Defender issues and making sure you have those (as well as the basics) covered.

In my opinion corrugated roads is the biggest risk on this trip. I would take a spare front and rear shock.

If the the car is pretty new I'm not sure what else I'd bring.
    L322 tdv8 poverty pack - wow
Perentie 110 wagon ARN 49-107 (probably selling) turbo, p/steer, RFSV front axle/trutrack, HF, gullwing windows, double jerrys etc.
Perentie 110 wagon ARN 48-699 another project

For my Simpson trip I took spare shocks (one front, one rear), air filter, fuel filter, serpentine belt, idler pulleys, vacuum pump, hoses and clamps and some magic hose sealant tape and that's about it.
Probably wouldn't have bothered with the vacuum pump but I got it for free.

I also printed out a colour version of the workshop manual which now lives in the car.

There's a few good threads on tools - depends what jobs you're likely to be doing but if you do a search based on tools you'll find all you need.

Get premium roadside assist. Worth its weight in gold. They might not recover you from the middle of the desert but it's pretty cheap insurance for a big trip

And get someone to go over the vehicle WITH YOU showing you the points of a daily basic inspection so YOU understand what to look at/for any signs of impending failure...
