Defender ordered - now dealer says deal has changed

I have a Defender 110 with Black Pack on order, for delivery in March 2016.

I got a call from the dealer today saying that the factory says this vehicle must also come with a 'Run Out Pack' that includes:
    - Bullbar
    - Side protectors
    - Wing chequer plate
    - An undefined 'chequer plate set'

The charge for this pack is about $5500 extra on top of the existing agreed price.

And if I don't want that Run Out Pack, apparently the deal is off.

Has anybody else had a similar experience, or know if this is standard practice

I have no way of knowing if this is a legitimate factory edict,
or if perhaps they've found someone else who wants the same
vehicle with other extras, who is willing to pay more.

    Thanks in advance.

I've never bought a car from new and been able to choose the options, but I'd think if you've signed anything to the contrary, and put your money on the table, the factory is in no position to be burdening you with non standard options (which is likely to become their slow moving spare parts inventory in the coming years).

Tell you dealer to show you, where in the contract, it says that he can flog you someone else's cast offs.
    Cheers, Billy.

Cheers, that would be my assumption too, which is why I'm disappointed and am looking for input.

They have accepted your deposit and signed a legal contract. I would not have thought they could dictate anything.

I agree with what you guys are saying.

I just wondered if there was some exception for Defenders because they're in the final days and the factory might have more power over those of us who are after one.

I'll tell the dealer tomorrow that I don't want this Run Out Pack and report back on what happens.

I also contacted Land Rover Australia. Hope there's not some direct connection to the dealer I've been talking to!

Seems ridiculous that they think they can make you pay $5500 after already agreeing on a price. If it has to come out of the factory with this "run-out" pack, then you should get it included in the price already agreed upon.

Never heard of this run-out pack anyway. Just had a quick search and couldn't find anything. Does anyone have any more info?

Life's not that easy. You won't be able to dictate what the factory will build because you don't have a contract with them. Read the fine print of your order with the dealer, if they can't supply what you've ordered you can cancel the order.

Unfortunately the dealer is in a difficult position because they've probably taken an order before the specs and pricing for the MY16 has been released. I'm in the same boat in that respect, but having an earlier build slot hopefully it won't happen. For me that would probably be a deal breaker.

    Good luck.

    Cheers,
    Jon

Bullbar sounds dodgy... they are not even legal in the UK so why would the factory be fitting them, unless they mean that plastic "frontal protection system" LR sell?
