Either the dealer stuffed up when ordering and they're trying to cover for it, or they're trying to palm off a vehicle ordered by someone else and not sold. Is it even the same colour as you ordered?

I'm not a lawyer but I would argue that if you signed a contract for a certain vehicle, with certain specs, at a certain price, any extras should be at dealers expense. ...If you accept the vehicle at all that is. Bullbar and side protectors are easy to remove by the dealer. Checker plate a problem if you don't want it.
Hmmm, color change unknown - that wasn't brought up.
Will check tomorrow when I follow up.

    - I'm not keen on the side protectors - want rock sliders that keep the same side clearance as stock.
    - Prefer to choose my own bullbar and winch setup too.
    - And have my own ideas about where chequerplate should go.

These dealers are the only ones in the vicinity, and I have this vision of three years of servicing hell if I turn them all against me over this. I'd rather not drive a couple of hours to get serviced by the next-nearest dealer, but how they respond next will determine if I turn a bit feral.
Have you bought the car from Austral Land Rover?
Just that there's a LR dealer setting up in Springwood!

They've just put the concrete sides up, says they will open in January.

You should also post this on the Defender2net site at the Land Rover a Customer Relations section. I have noticed the questions get responded to pretty quickly and they then contact the dealers and the country office.

I also think they would be on very shaky ground here as you have entered a contract. take the advice of others here

I think all those options are actually dealer fitted, and not factory fitted.

It's surprising what is actually dealer fitted, eg. Tow bars, xenon lights, lockable cubby box etc. the bullbar and checker plate would be the dealers own spec. There are also dealer fitted side runners (which, IMHO, are better as they are wider).

Ask them to provide a screen shot of the factory order, and you'll quickly see what is determined at the factory.

Fair point. I had visions of rocking up and being mad dogged by the dealers when I dropped it off, but you're right.
