It's certainly an odd sounding mechanism. So disconnect EGR, replace adapter shaft and drive flanges, change gears slowly when cold and we should be left with only the endearing Defender clunkiness, not the annoying clunkiness.

The BAS remap will close the EGR and give you 150/170 hp
I recall Dave? Saying periodically remap to standard so the EGR does not seize up permanently, perhaps on your annual drive to the dealer

Oh and it changes the between gear smoothness dramatically
By all means get a Defender. If you get a good one, you'll be happy. If you get a bad one, you'll become a philosopher.

The with the BAS remaps, the EGR valve still performs its cleaning cycle at shutdown. I can hear it on mine.

    Cheers, Billy.
I have just bought the CD of the Puma manual off this site, but haven't had a chance for a good look at it yet.

He only recently made this standard on the remap, before it was an option. I Believe there may be a free upgrade, btw i am talking Puma, cant speak for earlier models

As Beery said, my EGR still performs it's cleaning cycle on shutdown even though it's turned off via a BAS remap and permanently blanked.
Though having said that, the cleaning cycle is a lot quieter now it's off.
I did ask Pete awhile ago if it was necessary to run the EGR on standard tune every now and again just to keep it in working order. He said just blank it and forget about it.

Which site? How much was it Mick? I'd really like to have one.
    Cheers, Billy.
