Video comparison: Defender 110 vs Jeep Rubicon (1/2 hr vid)

I wonder is there a sensor for the anti stall that could possibly be manually overwritten with an in-cab switch? This would be perfect just flick the switch when descending.

Something maybe the tech head Gurus could answer.

It came across my mind that this is an unusual comparison given that the rubicon is a top of the line model that comes with
- full lockers
- rock sliders
- different gear ratios (afaik transfer case is designed for rock crawling)

Given that the defender has not got full lockers, rock sliders or rock crawling transfer cases it seems like the comparison should have been with the Wranger sport?

Having not watched the video yet I can't say if they defender has been modified?

I think he compares the Defender to absolutely everything, because although he would never own another one, I'm pretty sure he sees it as the Bench Mark Four Wheel Drive.

Thanks for sharing, I enjoyed watching that. I was quite surprised how much more articulation the Jeep had than the Defender, it certainly seems to be a capable car.

The thing that kills it for me with the Jeep though (aside from the horrid Call of Duty badges all over it) is the sheer volume of plastic that those cars have. Inside and out, it's everywhere.

Give me a Defender any day, nuances and all :cool:

That is a good point. Load up the comparison vehicle with a load equivalent to that of the Defender, be it on board or towed and then make a comparison.

Gotta do a re-check on you saying "reverse low is not low or slow":
I have tackled hills that border on insane steep and just to show off to a toycruiser operator: idled up and down - forwards and reverse. Dead slow in low reverse and low first.

Something in our disparate experiences is not adding up.

Edit: Really slow speed maneuvering in tight places (inches to spare) - the idle jack feature is a nuisance. It scared me when I was trying to go millimeter slow and check a basement aircon duct wasn't going to gut my roof...

Both in low reverse and low first in TDCi defenders: When the clutch pedal is almost fully up the position sensor on the clutch pedal signals and the ECU ramps idle speed up a few hundred rpm

Normal (for TDCi defenders in low range and first/reverse)

That (little) speed increase can give you a scare. But the crawling speed of the vehicle is still damn slow and controlled.

And yes... If you press the brake (only) to stop the vehicle when it's motoring in low range 1st/rev (on slope or level ground!) it's not going to stop easily!

Notes:
Idle jack (idle ramps up in low/1st and low/rev) is NOT the same as anti-stall

Anti-stall can be felt in any gear, high or low range (slow down to under 800rpm in high 6th and see what you see). In lower gears it is more effective than taller gears. It just tries to feed in more fuel to keep the rpm from going below idle speed.

Idle Jack ONLY relates to:
TDCi defenders
Low range 1st or Low range rev
Clutch pedal fully up
(i.e. Your road wheel(s) are turning)

Then idle speed will be raised after a slight delay by a few hundred rpm.

Rubicon has sway- bar disconnect I think,which would explain the good articulation.The video surprised me really.I thought Mr.St Pierre- White was going to bag the Defender.He keeps comparing the Defender to other brands,just to bag Defenders.Rubicon is top of the range.Doesn't the transfer case have some ridiculously low gearing in low range. Rock hopping's what they're built for.Apples and oranges.
