Its the td5 version of a generic lie box that sits between the ECU, the injectors and the engine sensors (the google translate of the manual was significantly spanglish so I suspect its a translation of a translation) that makes everything tell lies to each other.

Dont get me wrong with the next bit I'm all for proper remap work but anything that increases the number of connections in the system or bodges the information going from one component to another is bad. Maybe it was ok back in the 90's when fuel injection was simple and the duration was the only factor the system could control but now with multi stage, pre and post injection not so much.

given the quality of the installation of yours its almost a miracle that it was running at all.

Yeah so I ripped the whole interior and Sanden AC unit out today... that's a whole other story... and I found a car alarm setup behind the dasy with ECU - An ABS controller thats not hooked up and a bunch of random wiring... I have some work to do to say the least... anyhow whilst doing so i found a DIMSPORT RAPID TD5 sticker from the box face.. checked it out and your on the money dave. They still sell this thing too! and get this they go for $375 Pounds! who's dropping $750 large on these things?! I got a new NN ECU from Jose and a lifetime of maps for a bit over $900.. it's a no -brainer!

Anyhow it's coming out and ECU will be re-terminated correctly... I'm wondering if this might be the reason for the strange little surging issue I've had all this time.. also my indicators flash with the trailer lamp all the time and some other little quirky things too...I will report back.

Now anyone want to make me an offer on this exquisite european paperweight?

Will swap for anything of interest? a used band aid even? Maybe i might chuck it on eBay and see if its worth anything? maybe i can get something for all my troubles.

cheers guys once again the forum prevails against insanity. Hurrah!

Stick it on eBay with a link to the company so punters can see what they are worth new - some wood duck will give you some money for it.

Indicators with the trailer lamp means you need LED bulbs in your bullbar indicators.

oh ok cool its a landrover bullbar just the black tube style but a full bar not some ****y nudge bar or whatever.

I thought if i stuck LED globes in the front it'd make the flash times go crazy and I'd need to add a flasher unit?

Nope its been the same since day dot add an extra lamp and the trailer light blinks. It blinks once on the initial turn signal activation as a lamp check function...

Most likely the surge will be map/maf earth/stray impedence related.

But with shodylock connectors on the ecu.... it could be tuning the static capacitance variations with the density variations caused by driver flatulance and local humitidy variatioms of bo/sweat levels

    SUCCESS!

    ALRIGHT! Case closed.

So quick update - any search on this forum about surging will find more than one thread on what I have done to chase surging issues. Well it seems that awesome piece of "kit" from DMSPORTS that was hacked into my ECU was causing the woes. The shoddy lock connectors had some oil fouled in them too, once I removed the whole debacle reterminated and heat shrunk all appropriate wiring I took it for a drive.

Lets just say it hauls ass now. No surging whatsoever. No kangaroo hopping. Nothing. Pulls hard as train - it should its got a stage 3 map, bigger cooler, straight through exhaust, de-EGR, and a bunch of other things. No hesitating under full throttle, throttle response is better, Im really happy.

    As always the forum prevails!

Now, time to have a look at that backlash.

The oil will be coming from your injector harness to your ecu........
You will find more oil if you unplug the ecu........

Only on a Land Rover will you find an oil leak at the ecu........

Cheers Zook, I've already been familiar with that one, changed out the harness about 6 months ago - had gotten rid of all the residue too, nothing at the plug at both ends - pulled out the rubber grommets everything. It was just that tiny little bit hiding in the shoddy loc connector points.

    Alls well that ends well.
