If you remove it check the wires carefully as some of the strands will have been cut by the connectors.

Get it out, reterninate the harness plugs correctly and do it right. Its such utterly crap install work Im not even going to waste the bandwidth to see the full size pictures. Assuming the quality of the components is better than the quality of the install work (which isnt saying much) its probably still not up to par with other stuff you can obtain and I'll just shortcut the list here

traxide Dual Battery System (Drivesafe on here)
Tombies Remaps (was Tombie2 last time he was here) (IF you already have a remapped ECU then you dont need this unless your map is buggy)
A tekonsha trailer brake controller (alko suppliers)
Suspension stuff for your new springs/shocks (the mates rates kit)
MR automotive for NIRTS parts and Roverlord via the forum for routine/service parts
Daves interesting things (Incisor) for your workshop manual/Rave CD
and AULRO for short notice help and general comraderie
Various forum users taglines for chuckles and inspiration
And P38Rover if you need to spell something.
cheers mate - I got a fair chunk of that list already - got my rave and subscription here... tried to get a well tempered today from daves shop but they're no longer in production (anyone wanna sell me theirs?) Im a regular user of MR auto - they just converted me to oiled bearings a fortnight ago - got their trackrod/flanges/draglink/aframe at the same time...
ive got some random dual battery setup that i might toss so i'll check the traxide out and I don't tow anything so the brake controller is a bust for me..

I spell alright when i'm not in a hurry... well not to bad for a big guy with sasauge fingers anyways.

I use the forum as often as I use my credit card so all good there too. I've literally rebuilt this truck from the ground up all with nothing more than curiosity and the help of the guys on the forum. I just ripped the whole interior and dash to insulate it all today and sort out the ECU and battery compartments... it's nearly the last thing on my list of "to do's" diffs next then Jose's turbo and I'm done... till something breaks anyways..

It'll be nice to be on the forum as a spectator for a change instead of a victim

So im under the drivers seat and im finally going to untangle the mess that was there when I bought it, reline it, insulate etc etc.. I had a dual battery setup on the other side that was shot and also it was setup with trailer brake etc..

so what is this thing? I though it was just a trailer brake setup, as by the way it was just hacked into the ECU, i did a search on the part number SAAB FRCRTD5 and it comes up with a lot of pages in foreign languages but not a whole lot else, i've narrowed it down ( i think) to either an aftermarket ABS controller, a diesel performance setup - dimsport in Europe do this with this part number, or it's some sort of trailer brake attachment.

Any ideas guys.... FYI ive had a persistent surging problem for a loooong time now. Ive literally chased everything, wastegates, turbo hoses, thermostats, handbrakes, alternators - just redid the fuel pump and harmonic balancer too as they needed doing... I'm wondering if my NNN ECU upgrade from Jose is having conflict with what could be some sort of diesel tuning setup maybe? it has a little control box with a simple on/off switch and a blue light that comes on.. The car was sluggish as hell when i got it... joses map and allisports intercooler helped that out, but i have joses turbo coming soon and want to sort this out..

    ANY IDEAS???

    thanks again guys.

Cheers Muppet, I was thinking the same thing too - all the listings I found online and also after further investigation seem to say its a diesel tuning setup in the UK.. be nice if Tombie or one of the other Sages could ID it though..

The funny thing is everywhere I saw it listed was on pages for the "bespoke" defender builders asking ridiculous money for cars we build ourselves ... you know the ones.. strap on a fancy nose cone and grill, some low profile wheels that are useless and some seriously dark tinting and ask 80,000 pounds for it..

anyways it needs to come out.. my whole dash was dismantled today to seal up some bulkhead leaks etc.. the wiring behind the stereo was a MESS! everything is tagged and numbered so whats another clump of wires...

I must say it was fun using the guernsy on the inside of a car though.... never done that before... not in the front anyways!
