Hey ngarigo, I concur with Jock. I've been running 661's for 20 years on my Defenders and also on work toyotas. Similar driving / routes / use to that which Jock describes, as well as across the centre and south of continent.

I run them at 38psi unless fully loaded (42-44) or lower pressure on soft sand. Regularly get 80K out of them. They are tough and have very strong sidewalls. I wouldn't run anything else.

thanks for the replies guys, I've had five 661's fitted this morning and it has totally changed my driving experience, and for the better! when I got the wagon over four years ago now she was shod with 265 cooper st maxx's and I have to say returning her to stock size boots i.e. 235's has greatly improved the driving experience... so much more responsive,
guess the designers knew what they were doing alright....

Glad to see this thread. I've been tossing ideas about trying to decide what A/T pattern to try in 235/85R16 after I wear out Agnes' current shoes (265/75R16 Hankook RT03 M/T's).

I had read a bit about the 661's, and thought I'd go and have a look at one in the flesh. I asked at my local Bridgestone dealer, and the guy behind the counter had never even heard of them! He had to do a search on his shop computer, then told me he would have to order them from South Australia if I wanted some.

I have plenty of tread left on the Hankooks after 31,000 km from new. However, I'd be very keen to give the 661's a try in the 235 when it comes time to change over.

Yeah Nige, they're not well known in southern regions because they're a commercial tyre used predominantly in severe, hot, northern conditions, cattle stations, mines, etc. If you go to a commercial Bridgestone dealer they may have some. They never discount them in my experience either. They're that good. They only come in the one size too as far as I know. Cheers

You're welcome. 235's are the way to go.

Yes the 661s are a good performer for central aust travel. I always thought bfg ATs were good , however the bridgestones are proving better value.
