Yet the test I did was valid and the amount of fuel I received for the 20 liters I paid for varied a significant amount. Clearly some pumps are not correctly calibrated or the servo can alter the calibration one or the other must be true or I would have received exactly 20 liters at every servo and I didnt.Quote:

I'm sure 300tdi owners will tell you, BP diesel (in metro areas) gives better fuel consumption. I noticed this for many years with my Disco 1 300tdi.
Up North (W.A) you will get a noticeable decrease in fuel economy regardless of source.

But lets ignore that data because my bum dyno tells me that it doesn't matter what brand of fuel I buy from what servo - my vehicle is like me: Some days its all smooth sailing and rainbow unicorns. Very next day it can be noticably disjointed and hard work in the morning, but after lunch its back to smooth sailing. (seriously).
I reckon that the ECU can get a bit out of kilter. Is it some occasional corrupted memory (reset when it likes, after a longish lunch break?), or is it the inputs the ECU relies on not always giving good data?
(Note: Sometimes its good in the morning and grumpy in the arvo. So no identifiable pattern there)
Or is it just me? My bum dyno not as reliable as I think? Is it when I am in a positive frame of mind and drive assertively - it all comes together nicely?

fuel temp also counts.
when fuel was first going through $1 a litre i always got better economy out of fuel that i picked up first thing in the morning before the tankers dumped the fuel in compared to fuel picked up.that afternoon.
while the following numbers are made up to be indicative only they show the point
1kg of fuel at 15 deg c might be equal to .95l delivered from the pump whereas the same fuel delivered at 30 degrees might be 1.05l delivered. thats 10% in your useable weight of fuel (this in part is why aviation fuel is measured by weight). of you bought your fuel by the litre hot, let it cool and you could in theory add another 10 l of cold fuel per 100l of got fuel youd poured in and you wouldnt have even moved the vehicle or started the test.

And this mighy sound stupid but i swear that ever since i changed the flanges to HD units and upgraded to oil fed lubrication that the economy went up a tiny bit further.....might be my imagination though:what:
