    Best fuel for Puma 2.2

Has anyone else noticed this? Over the past few months I've been experimenting with diesel brands. BP is clearly the best fuel to run in my Defender. It runs noticeably smoother, quieter, and with significantly better economy by at least 1 litre per km! Caltex is worst for both, followed by Shell, then Mobil. I have no idea why, but I'll be looking for BP from now on.

    What's the sample size?
How many tanks of each and was it from one location, or across multiple sites within the same brand? Was the driving you did within each brand of fuel consistent, or varied?

Post up your spreadsheet calculation for a look see! Genuinely interested.
I don't routinely calculate my economy, but have calculated from 13l/100km, down to 11.3l/100km.

Not sure what additives they put into BP diesel, but my old Patrol and now my Defender TD5 drive noticeably better with BP compared to Caltex or Shell. This is just my observation, but when I spoke to the owner of JC Diesel in Narellan, he also said that in his opinion BP was way better than the others. Can't say it made any difference in fuel consumption.

Compared with BP and Caltex, hardly found any difference.... I use my own oil additive everytime. Apply Liqui Moly Diesel Clean&Boost(availabe in every Autobarn). My two diesel vehicles have been using it for more than 1 year, feels more economy around town.especially for those latest euro Diesel engines, maintains should start from the very first day^ ^

SWMBO's dad is the cropping manager on a large property in western NSW growing ~80,000 acres of wheat annually. they have found that the blue tinted "high performance" diesel pays for its additional cost of a couple of cents a litre in reduced fuel consumption on large tractors.

I always try to to fill with Ultimate. If I can't get that, then I'll look for Caltex or Shell,....not many Mobil sites, but they'll do too. Can't notice any difference.
But, I always go for the "Majors".

Before you decide one brand of fuel gives better economy check you are getting the amount of fuel you paid for. A few years back when I lived in Innisfail I was suspicious that I was not getting the correct amount of fuel it was after a news program saying it was a problem. Anyway I bought 20 liters in a fuel container and took it home. using a jug I put 2 couple of liters at a time in my cat being very careful not to spill a drop. I was 1.5 liters short, apparently this is more common than you might think. I did the same test to other local stations and most were down but half a liter or less one was over by just over half a liter so I bought fuel from them.

servo's have no way of shorting pump fuel.
Gilbarco would be ruined if it was even thought of as ripping people off.

...no precise stats, other than many 500-600km full tank long haul tests over the past three months. My judgement is based on the quality/ feel of the drive with different brand diesels. BP is clearly the best in terms of smoothness, less engine clatter, more power and also better fuel economy.
