    2.4 PUMA Engine Oil

    Hi All
My local LR Dealer has Castrol Edge Professional 5W30 C3 in stock. I understand that the 2.4 is mean to have the C1 version of this oil. I am not an oil guru - but will the C3 be ok?

The Dealer said they have previously used the C3 in the PUMA 2.4, but recently changed to the C1 version as LR changes the specs at times.

It is $88 per 5L. He said it is used a lot in VW vehicles (they are VW Dealer also).

To meet the FORD WSS-M2C913-B requirement there are several oils that claim to, including:

    http://www.caltex.com.au/ProductsAnd...t.aspx?ID=1860

    LIQUI-MOLY Australia - SPECIAL TEC F | 5W-30

Are people using any of these? Or are we sticking to the Castrol product?

The Penrite is $195 for 20L at Supercheap.

    Thanks in advance,
    Michael

    You could also try; [ame]http://www.fuel-economy.lubricants.total.com/documents/pdf/cars/nl/total_quartz_9000_future_nfc_5w-30_gb.pdf[/ame]
Meets all the Ford specs, approx $67 per 5ltrs.

    Hi Michael,

I use Penrite HPR5 Diesel 5W40, I have previously used Penrite HPR5 5W40 as well, but am convinced that the Diesel specific additives in the HPR5 Diesel are better for keeping everything clean. Sometimes additives in a Semi-Synthetic can have a higher shear resistance (resistance to the long chain polymers breaking down through heat and stress) compared with Full Synthetics. Sounds crazy but it's true.

I prefer the 5W40 as I do a lot of driving out bush where the ambient temperatures are very high, and will offer better protection.

There are plenty of options to use, like you said as long as the oil is compliant with the Ford specs listed in the manual you shouldn't have an issue.

Also if you keep changing your oil and filter regularly, you will be doing your engine the best favour.

Repco now has all the Penrite range. And sometimes RAC have a 20% off all oils at Repco too.... we use the Penrite progear 75w90 synthetic gear oil in the puma transfer cases.

    Jc ☺
The Isuzu 110. Solid and as dependable as a rock, coming soon with auto box😊
The Range Rover L322 4.4.TTDV8 ....probably won't bother with the remap..😈

I use Penrite HPR Diesel 5 5W40 Semi Synthetic on customers Defenders, first started using it on the TDCi 2.4lt and 2.2lt, now use it on all TD5, 300tdi, 200tdi

But... I still have that few group of customers that either want me to use the full synthetic version or to use the Castrol Professional...

There is another thread on here with regards to engine oil in a Defender TDCi, its worth a read..

    Regards
    Daz

P.S here is some more (long winded) info here with regards to oil
    Oil colour after service?

Yep all the transfer cases, also use it in the MT82 gearbox as it meets the ford spec, and also the diffs (both Land Rover and Jeep).

I've started to use the Penrite Progear 70W75 in the older R380 manual box as an alternative to Castrol Transmax Z and they seem fine with that 1st to 2nd cold shift issue.

Find a repairer that uses Penrite and ask if they will supply you with 20lt (or whatever size you want) and save a few dollars more (its not much as Supercheap get another 5% discount below trade price). I'm always happy to put extra orders into Penrite to supply products for customers.
