Spoke with Bruce Davis today RE: the 6speed auto, he is not a fan, says they draw a lot of power from the motor, and the gearbox computer doesn't communicate.
Love to hear feedback if anyone in OZ has had it done.

That's with a 6spd Allison auto transmission, which is supposed to be the bee's knee's of autos to handle power. Now as people have fitted patrol front diffs to defenders, the clearances should be similar.
Also the AULRO member has one up and running.
There are some issues with one of the OTHER converters, not sure what's going on though?

Another "fun" option would be a 6.2litre LS3 with a 6 spd auto at around 1/2 the duramax price! :D

LS3 would indeed be a great engine for any Defender. Firms like "Twisted" etc do quite a few of them in the U.K.
The GM LS3 Smallblock is a compact, 6.2L V8 with around 450HP & 570NM, depending upon which spec you order,...a matching 6 speed GM Auto would be the way to go,....this is standard HSV stuff, so there's a fair bit of it around S/H.
Of course buying the powertrain is the easy part,....getting it to work in a Defender is quite another thing, depending upon how handy you are, or alternatively,......how many dollars you have,......I'm lacking in both.

For the ABS/traction control, AFAIK it's a seperate unit to the ecu in my td5, but if anyone knows more please post?
The D3 manual box is just an MT82 same as a defender/ford mustang so you would only need the bellhousing to suit, 6R80 is a ford trans built under license from ZF so effectively its just a ZF6HP trans.
TDV6 manual using LR parts would be virtually a bolt in job as you can use an LT230, 6R80 would need some adaption but nothing is impossible.
Auto would be awesome .

What are the various opinions on what power/torque the rest of the standard driveline can take?
At what point does an engine and tranny change then entail changing diff/axle changes as well?
