Think it is a 6R80 from Ford which is a version of the ZF 6HP26 but i stand to be corrected.
If it is 6R80 then I believe there has been some solenoid issues with the F150 6R80 in the US fitted to F150 and it is advised you cool them very well, fans on coolers etc.

Ford uses the 6R80 behind the TDV6 in the Territory, so it sounds like that would be the way to go.
Interesting.

I see you are in NSW but here in Melbourne Fred Smith Four wheel Drives converted one of his own 130 to Chevy 6.2L diesel auto. Maybe good to have a chat with him.
The 6.2 and even the 6.5 weren't a great engine. The 6.5 turbo has some big torque etc however it is prone to overheating in a Defender application due to limited frontal area radiator size.. Vern has had a 6.5 and loathed it. In the end he went isuzu 4bd1t. Harsher but far better in all other respects especially fuel economy and suprisingly more torque etc for very little effort...

Depending upon your budget, and time frame there are a few other big options better than the 6.2/6.5 old chev.
One is the duramax 6.6 TDV8, up to 1100nm and 300+kw.
