    Electrickery being tricky

    Hi,
All loaded up to go to the hardware place for some gravel and stuff.

Key in ign, on, faint red glow on one dash light and lots of NOTHING.

    Grrrr!

12.3 volts on battery, so put it on charge and have coffee.

Open door after coffee to check voltage, 13+ Volts and lots of noise from the vehicle alarm system with the horn blowing, so the battery is good. Horn stops after a while.

Try key fob to de arm alarm system - nothing, lock or unlock.
    Try second key fob, ditto.

Put key in ign through open driver's window - alarm sounds. Grrrr!

Thinking --- Key fob battery is flat (not thinking straight), or alarm/system has changed codes (possibly correct)

Call Auto Club (been a member for over 50 years and called them perhaps 3 times)
Arrives within 20 min (nice), but wants to pop the bonnet to check the battery.
    Confidence drops by 50%.
Checks all fuses - no fault found.
Makes phone call re key fobs to their local mobile locksmith - Flat tray to local dealers recommended.

    Not happy Jan!

By now the alarm system seems to be less anxious and will allow doors to be open with out going bananas.

As a last resort before giving up I try the usual pre battery replacement procedure as described in the owners manual.

    Loosen Neg battery terminal
Sit in driver's seat, doors closed, windows up
Key in, ign on, wait 10 seconds, ign off, key out
    Remove Neg battery terminal.

Wait one minute, re connect Neg terminal.

    Key in, restart vehicle

    What just happened?

Now both key fobs lock and unlock, every thing is back to normal.

    Auto Club guy is surprised.

I sent him off with a photocopy from the owner's handbook of the procedure just used, for future reference.

Why do things have to be so complicated??

Austastar, I recently had a similar issue with my alarms. I found that cycling the door lock, Un lock sorted it. It happened multiple times once it occurred, such as petrol stations etc.
It is like the system some how gets out of sync. Not a technical reply, just my experience.

    Here you go

    Gday Rob.
As requested, just enter it in EBay and you should be right. It's a well put together item.

I have been having problems with the bluetooth working on the factory Alpine head unit. Noticed some on here have tried flashing with a firmware update, however it is technically not supported by Alpine, and some have been left with a 'dead' stereo.

So purchased an Alpine CDE-196DAB. It's an upgrade on the factory, and also has Digital reception. I have not yet setup the digital antenna - I'll leave that for another day.

Also bought some new speakers to replace the factory ones. I realise the Focal's are somewhat wasted on the sublime Defender acoustics , however I got them at a great price and could not resist.

All up - they sound great (within the limitations of a Defender).

Front Speakers (they are splits - not why the tweeters are not in the pic - also forgot to take a picture installed)

    And the rears (2 ways)

What's with white centre console? Was this offered factory? If not, why change? I have never seen it before.
