Thumbs up 6 yr road side assist !!

I was at the local dealer today for a service. Apparently LR are offering 6 year (from purchase) road side assist if you service your vehicle with them post warranty.

Not bad if you were going to service with them anyway

    Cheers,

    Pete

It sounds good and being free is okay but I wonder........will it have the same help options of say - RACV Total Care or what ever equivalent your state motoring association offers. Total Care will, in worst case scenario, transport you, your family, caravan etc back home at no cost in cases of mechanical breakdown.

Basic motoring organisation roadside assist is only about $100 P.A. Total Care is $225 P.A. -cheap when compared to the benefits on offer.

Does that apply to Defenders? I was speaking with Land Rover warranty people a couple of weeks ago to see if I could get extended warranty on my 2012 which is now out of warranty. A very quick no was the answer as soon as I said it was a defender :-(

Yes it does apply to Defenders. It continues road side assist beyond the warrany period. More detail on what road side assist provides is on the LR Web site.

I'm very happy with my dealer servicing to date - but it has been free on a corporate plan. I intend to continue post warranty because I wish to maintain 'goodwill'..... LR have a good track record in that regard. For me the extended road side assist is a bonus

    Just home.
En-route to Simpson and entering Boulia, the oil cooler (an old favourite) went and oiled up the coolant. No mechanics in town at this time.

    Called Land Rover Assist. Thankfully I only just renewed it, as I believe that I can resolve most issues on site. I cannot flush the cooling system in the bush and no, I wouldn't carry a spare oil cooler. Anyhow;
I called L,R assist and they were most helpful. They arranged a tow to Mt Isa, then the car will be sent to Townsville for repairs (a very long trip). Julie and I went in the tow truck to Mt Isa and there was a hire car ready for us. We were put up for the night in Boulia as well in motel accommodation. We chose to drive directly to Townsville that afternoon and night.

Best $125 I have spent in some time, renewing the Land Rover Assist. They could not be anymore helpful.

I agree that motor associations (or insurance Co's) offer a better option/value for money. I generally push friends/relatives in the direction of RAC. My elderly mother has RAC, and hell they even came out to change a flat tyre on her Discovery 2!!

I am also willing to support any business that is community minded such as the RAC, in W.A we have two RAC Rescue helicopters....

Wow, that's not bad Peter !

I know with certain 'premium' cover you can only get limited distance (400km) free and the rest you pay for..... still a huge bill if you're in central Aust or touring....

I have just called Trivet Alexandria (SYD) having waited on the phone for 30 mins for the service department (??), to see what their story is with extended warranty on my 2012 Puma 90.

I was told the vehicle will have to be assessed either by them or a 3rd party warranty company, and that this is not an extension of the factory warranty it is a whole separate process independent of Land Rover which is not quite how I read it initially. Should there be any existing issues identified during the assessment they are unlikely to touch it.

Hmmm, a defender without an existing issue, drawing a long bow there I think

If its an extended third party warranty.... bluntly.... it will be a waste of money.
I've had numerous customers that purchased a vehicle with a third party warranty and I've not seen one instance when a claim was made that they covered.

The worst example was a major engine failure after only 2 months of purchasing, the selling dealer didnt even take the vehicle back and simply stated the owner needed to contact the company supplying the warranty. The end result was a replacement engine, the warranty covered $4K, leaving the customer with a $10K bill.........

Question road side assist or warranty?

Hi, I thought the thread started out about road side assist and if LR will provide that for 6 yrs for the fee mentioned then great in my opinion, but it seems now to be a discussion re warranty and we knwo LR does not provide the extended warranty on pumas--for obvious reasons!
Can someone clarify that road side assist can be had for the extra 3 years as it seems cheaper than say NRMA premium which is great--not interested in warranty as I know it is not available on Defenders.
