Thread: Sound Proofing??

I stuffed the roof cavity with earthwool home insulation. Works very well.

I also laid it over the tranny tunnel and under the cubby box.

Definitely keeps the heat in/out as needed, and also keeps the noise down considerably. A mate who used to own a 300tdi deefer said it was the quietest he had ever been in - and his had dynamat.

I used the Australian made dynamat alternative that uses vinyl instead of butyl. Made a huge difference in the 130. I did the rear wall, the floor around the seat box and the rear footwell.
I also got a sheet of heat insulating material and stuck it to the bottom of the ex box and along the underneath of the rear footwell. That and wrapping the exhaust made a considerable difference to the interior temperature.

What is this product called? And did it have a self adhesive side?

Another member has said that the single biggest improvement he made was shoving an engine mat down the back of the engine. Yet to do it myself but will be the first thing I try on the 300tdi. I did a bunch of things to the 200tdi, like matting in footwells, seat boxes, but wasn't super impressed. Passenger footwell was much cooler though.

I would say that bulkhead sound proofing if you ever get the engine out would be number 1

Resomat was the one that I used and yes it is self adhesive

Installing drawers in the rear certainly quieted the back down.
Otherwise, being a cheapskate, I just bought a dozen used carpet squares with rubber backing from a second hand shop for $2 each and spread them around the footwells. Works well and they can be lifted out and scrubbed if dirty.

Sometimes the simplest solutions are the best, must tell my mate who has a 3 door 110 wagon
