IMO completely different vehicles and VERY different to drive and what they would do. ALL good though.

Im not a fan of the Tibus portals, but cant deny the fact they are making some owners very happy.

Best portal'd rover ive seen was the same height as my 2.5 inch lifted defender. And the portals gave 5 inches of lift. Both had the same height tyres.

I believe the portals have been redesigned over the years, horror stories for first design, but havent heard much from latest design. Anyone heard any different?

The first portals tibus made I have ,they are the prototype he developed for Robert with the 130 Rhino in Germany.
They are the steel box 5" low geared .
Tibus then went on and made the 2nd lot out of alloy and 4" normal gearing.
These portals are the ones we heard so much about the failures of from a previous member.
Now there is the 3rd generation portals of which I have heard nothing about there performance.

There’s a guy in Vic who built his own portals, for a hybrid Landy years ago. The main thing I remember him telling me about them was he used the gears from Series 3 gearboxes (might have been the transfer gears). He’s a clever guy. He also worked on another LROCV members hybrid with a unique suspension setup which ended up winning Modified 4wd of the year.

Thats Bill. Amazing 4x4 mechanical mind and ability to make stuff. He was a member here a time ago.
