Thread: What did you do on your Defender today ? (well, this week anyway)

Technically not me personally, but my defender is in for a minor chassis repair, but which required a Body Separation....

Nothing important to report, but I did put the pod back on the roof, after removing it when we got back from Tasmania in March.
Bought the pod second hand in Brisbane for $180 a while back, and it has proven to be very useful. New ones are about 3-4 times the price, depending on size, so it was a good buy.
When we were in Tassie I kept the folding chairs, firepit and solar blanket up there, sitting on the annex flooring mat for cushioning. Worked well.
'George' is due for a service and a couple of jobs too, when I get a tax return.

After the full service on the Defender last week I thought I should give it a bit of a run so headed off to the Wagga area to visit oldest grandson & assist him with some mechanical & farm tasks. After a good run down, it wasn't long before the mountains (hills) were calling me to climb them - how does the song go? .........'Climb every mountain........'
Anyway, I did just that & the rewards were spectacular views in all directions.
What a magnificent country we live in!

Unfortunately I have to return to the 'big smoke' tomorrow, after cutting a few ton of firewood. But I'll be back!

An iconic photo. On one of my few trips to Australia I recall my brother showing me the hills around Northern NSW. 30+ years ago now so cannot remember locations. After walking around a hillside all morning we sat near ("Ants!" he said so it was near not under) an old tree similar to this but with a smaller view and ate our lunch. Reminds me of that trip.

Replaced the seals at both ends of the front prop shaft. (Actually paid someone to do it and got them to also replace the blown headlight bulb that happened on the way down to Yass!)

Drove home in the rain. (I really must try and find where the water is getting in on the driver's feet - it hasn't mattered during the drought) No problems, just a bit slower than usual. Came through next-door's place. Approaches to the river bridge very slippery, and the creek crossing was about a foot deep, but hard bottom (been stuck in there in quicksand once.)

Yesterday actually, & not far from you JD ........ after observing an unusually coloured sky at sunrise & replacing a split rubber cap on the front hub, I drove up the hill with the trailer and spent a few hours cutting a load of firewood for the grandson (who was working elsewhere on an irrigation system) before heading home via a very scenic alternate route. Followed the southern side of the Murrumbidgee River through beautiful grazing country & a bit of gravel road between Gundagai & Jugiong. Dropped into The George at Jugiong for a decent coffee before hitting the Hume back to Sydney. Was a very relaxing drive with the Defender running sweetly and an amazing lack of traffic, which according to a truckie has been that way since the VIC/NSW border closure.

Nice easy job. Replaced blown globe in fuel gauge on dash.
