(I am fully aware that the change was partly dictated by the need for an emissions compliant engine, and preferably one with a lot more power. And I a also aware that the key reason for the Isuzu's merits is that it was designed as a truck engine, not a car or light commercial engine.)
My fair comparison was ment as, Isuzu engine highly reliable and long lasting, Toyota 1HZ engine highly reliable long lasting.
Comparing either of the above God's engines to just about anything else isnt fair on other engines.
As in comparing the Ford MK7 transit engine to either of the above BUT comparing it to any Land Rover engine and it is a good engine, simplistic design reasonably well built.

A Defender has always been a hodge bodge of a vehicle rather than a purposely designed and built vehicle.
Land Rover reliability and longevity hasnt been a priority for the brand for many a decade and have become a irrelevant brand.

Got a new battery for the 90. Colder Melbourne nights and it was on its way out. Don't know the history of the one being replaced.

Cut rust out of bottom of firewall where I was getting a nice breeze on my feet, made up some panels to fit, add screws, rivets and sikaflex (as needed). Good as gold.

Fitted a full width front floor matt/trans tunnel cover I got from Ranga (Hit him up if you want one for a good price)

Cut some rust out of side rail and welded in new metal. I don't think the rest of it (both sides) is much longer for this world though. TJM siderails/steps not best quality ever.
It's not broken. It's "Carbon Neutral".

Had the keyless entry transponder replaced. Cameron {All Jaguar} came over and did the job on the road out the front. Now I don't need an EKA code to start the thing after entering with the key. Yay.
    Cheers, Billy.

Last weekend was dummy fit of LS into the 130. Down tools waiting on stuff to come in. I'm faced with the tension between (i) needing a rear facing intake manifold because of clearance issues presented by the forward facing intake manifold, intake pipe and the viscous fan blade; (ii) the necessary clearance to the firewall for the intake pipe; and (iii) locating the engine far enough back to have most of the weight behind the front axle. Most that do an LS fit thermo fans which opens up options for engine placement, piping and other packaging issues that i'm navigating. I'm putting out about 100hp more than a 6.2L and that comes with extra heat, thus the viscous fan. Ordered a Donaldson Cobra head that is tight fitting hopefully to clear the viscous fan on a forward facing intake manifold set up. That will solve an engine placement issue but then introduce a intake pipe layout problem because of the AC compressor. i still haven't worked out an air filter solution. On my layout, there isn't much room on the drivers side for the filter housing. There is room on the passenger side but that is on the wrong side for the snorkel. Who said an engine conversion was easy and can be knocked over in a weekend? That's right, someone that has never done it.

on a less exciting note, the refresh of the transfer has become more expensive. ATB is fubar from a bearing welding to the journal and the high range gear is scored from a fubar bearing.

    Engine out, only 1 injury!

Hi guys, first real post since joining. My (new to me) '99 130 has at least one stuck piston, so it was time to pull the motor. Hoping to swap in the 300tdi from my '96 rust bucket..er disco... after a fair few rust repairs, anyway, first big step achieved today. 20250919_162903.jpg
