Lightbulb Electronic Brake Controller Puma 130

    Hey folks,

I'm planning to fit an electronic brake controller to my 130.

I am trying to find a grey connector that is apparently fitted near to to fuse box (under steering wheel) for the connection? Does anybody know whether this connector exists in my 2015 version of the 130? There is also a black box above the brake pedal with two switches - is this related to the brake controller?

I have managed to install the tow bar and connected the socket to the loom under the right rear wheel arch no problems - all tested and done no issues.

Is it the 'SERVICE BRAKE' wire that controls the electronic brakes on a 7-pin connector?

Any advice greatly appreciated as always

Most of the trailer wiring is available in the plug on the factory loom but brake connection isn’t. You will need to run a sense wire from the brake light to the controller and a sufficiently thick brake wire from the controller to the plug at the back of the vehicle.
You should also consider the gauge of the power supply wire to the controller
Yes, the service brake is where the output from the controller goes to. The wire is usually blue in aus.

I’d send some pics but 300km from the Defer

    Thanks for the info!

Do you have any recommendations for model of brake controller? I was thinking of the Hayman Reese CompactIQ?

Also should I put a fuse in the system somewhere?

I've got a Tekonsha in the defender and an older redarc in my RTV ute, the Tekonsha is a far better unit but the redarc is a basic one and does not do progressive braking. The other thing I forgot to mention is that if you have a trailer with a breakaway unit you are supposed to provide a +12 volt feed to charge the battery when the trailer is connected. I didn't do this for the ute but the Defer has it run.
Fuse should be a self resetting one, 20 amp I think, the instructions for the brake controller will tell you.

    i did

i fitted a tekhonsha to the front of the center consoles, twin wires from the controller to the rear trailer plug, one for control off brake light one to carry the power to the trailer plug.

fitted a relay and power feed from the battery box under the passenger seat up to the controller. that way when the ignition is off there is no power leakage through the controller.

    works a treat.
