    Does anybody have body sliders.

I carry a Kayaks a fair bit and am getting tired of standing on the back wheels to tie them down, as it usually involves wrapping the other leg around something to stop falling off.
I'm looking for something to let me get to the roof racks around the rear of the 110, the front is OK as opening the door and standing to the sill usually gives me enough height to get the straps over and on.

I was looking at something like these

This would let me walk around the side of the car to tie things down.

Has anyone installed something like these ?
Are they good enough to use to walk on or do they flex the side of the body out ?
And does anyone know of a local fabricator as I'm fairly sure the shipping cost for these would more than double the price.

Here's the link for the originals. DEFENDER WRAPAROUND TUB BODY SLIDERS

    Hi,
I've seen a step that unfolds and sits over the top of a tyre, giving good access to the kayak on top.

Thats why I love my D4 with it's height adjustable suspension! Lifting my kayak onto the roof of my series 3 109 is a massive effort compared to the D4.

Sorry, I can't help your query much....

They look very slippery......easy t go are up

Maybe normal sliders to replace the sill with a nice wide step.

I throw one of these in to do the job. It's light and easy to move about and I can set it up behind so I can spear the kayaks into their cradles. And it's pretty safe to stand on. Much more so than what you're considering.

British Offroad on the Sunshine Coast make a lot of those in-house. They have made them for wagons I just can't find a photo.

Thanks for all the replies. I often take a milk crate but find I’m still a bit short. Last week we went to Fraser and took the kayak. With all of the camping gear and the kayaking stuff, I just can’t fit another thing in. Was considering building a rear ladder that I could clip off and lean against the side of the car but A. I’d have to make it and B. it’s one more thing to do when packing up
I have a system to get the boats onto the car myself fairly easily and it involves sliding them over the back, BTW all my boats are double sea kayaks. My problem is tying the dam things down. If I’ve only got one boat on I can throw the strap over and go over the other side of the car and throw it back over. When I’ve got two things on the racks, trying to get the strap to fall in the middle so I can get under and back over.

I’ve seen the photos from BOR but thought that was a one off for their special build. I’ll give them a call tomorrow. I’ll be putting some tread tape on them if I go ahead. I’m 90kg and my real concern is that if I walk on them the panel will be pulled out of shape.

    Cheers Glen

You can also get the box section type of body sliders, but they only seem to bolt into the aluminium body skin.
